#MolluscMonday: spotted this clam shell decoration on a visit yesterday to Newhailes, cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. Thought at first that they were moulded plaster but they’re real, gilded, clam shells from 1816 or earlier.

For this #molluscmonday we got a large one, the Tritonia hombergii. This sea slug grows to about 20 cm, which is gigantic compared to most other species in Sweden. Taken: 2026-05-14. Bergylteskär, Lysekil. Camera: Olympus TG-5 🤿🦑

We names the #Ediacaran #Edrathina obditchia from #InnerMeadow after we had decided it was a stem ctenophore. Ctenophores are also known as comb-jellies. Following recent convention we have used Beothuk words for naming. Edrathin means comb & Obditch means beast. So the name means “comb beast”
