We said goodbye to Fluffball this week. He went peacefully in his sleep. The cancer took him less than 3 weeks after we learned nothing else could be done. Rest well, my guy. Thanks for being with us 💜

And then I talk about this stuff with my MIL who works in theater, and she's like "yeah recently we had a play with a fascist sexist villain, and the audience got upset with the actor for saying terrible things as that character" like, I can not express how cooked we are🤮

When like, the intrigue of the story that moves the plot forward is WHY characters do the things they do. What's being narratively justified is the plot, not the morality of it. Depiction is not endorsement. I wonder how much disconnect there must be when you have a character who

I had a convo recently that was basically "What this character did was bad." "... yes? And there's several paragraphs about how they felt like they had no good choices, and why they chose the one they did?" "No I don't agree that doing bad things is ever okay."

Sometimes I catch myself thinking "is this too on the nose" while writing, but then I remind myself that no, it's probably the opposite because a lot of people's media literacy is in the fucking gutter 🙃

Remembering the time my earbuds case fell apart at the hinge, and I fixed it by gluing a strip of fabric over it. I don't work with fabric much, so I didn't have any scraps and chose to cut up a sock for that project.

Sometimes violence is the answer, but violence is illegal. So this week I am counteracting a pile of suffering (work) with a pile of suffering (gay) and hoping the math works out to at least net zero before I lose my fucking mind 🙃

He's 'only' a year and 4 months old, which is actually a pretty good age for his species, but still ... they can easily live for over 2 years when they're NOT from accidental inbred litters or backyard breeders, like Fluffball probably was. We rescued him from two students who were rehoming him

So ... a week after this, the tumor came back with a speed that took even the vet by surprise. Can't operate in the same spot again, so Fluffball is now on borrowed time until the cancer takes him. No clue how long he actually has left. Given his pedigree, it's not unexpected, but it still sucks.

And then we had a long chat about how yeah, the answer to that can be inferred by the audience, but for that story in particular and the weight of the character's emotions, it would actually be meaningful to have it explored and answered in universe as well, while the initial plot setup happens.

Avis ☆ @eccentricavis.weissteatime.com · 23/08/2026

Relevant because I need to catch up on Given and I still remember a friend years ago saying something like "it's hard to say what's wrong because the show doesn't explicitly say people kill themselves over a small argument, but it also doesn't explicitly says that they don't"

A surefire way for me to have a love-hate relationship with a story is when it uses concepts not in an outright bad way, but in a way that falls kinda flat and feels disproportionately small to the weight those concepts would deserve - and the weight they're expected to have for the audience.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

I may only have 4 of them, currently all allocated to other decks 😭 (this is deck #5) But also, since it heals to bottom of deck, it works best with deck search combos, which this deck I'm trying to make doesn't have as easily available. Plus no soul trigger either.

Looking at this card brings me so much misery 😂 Why is she on reverse? Why can both effects be nullified with a blinker? Why can the actual plus be countered with bombs? And if she's meant to make you cancel, why is it impossible for her to grab herself to loop combo if you stay at level 1?

No but you CAN'T possibly have girl things and guy things in the same game! /s On a more serious note, I guess there's some value in women-only card events in Japan (and I heard some Blau events had that limit), but that's not really a solution to the problem it's addressing.

Avis ☆ @eccentricavis.weissteatime.com · 22/07/2026

They took the two main aspects of Weiss and fumbled both with Blau. The result certainly had SOME target demographic, but it wasn't a big nor sustainable one.
