The impact of Emergency! is amazing. I don't think many people today realize the widespread effect it had at the time.
When the show premiered, there were 12 paramedic units in all of North America. In the next three years, 46 states enacted laws that allowed paramedics to practice emergency medicine. Within 10 years, more than half of all Americans were within 10 minutes of a paramedic rescue or ambulance unit.

Experts say that growth simply would not have occurred without Emergency!

I'm watching "Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus" with some friends in Discord. I was prepared for the music to be powerful. I did not expect the cinematography to be equally moving. This is a beautiful, beautiful film. Highly, highly recommended. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryuichi...
A black and white image of Ryuichi Sakamoto seated in front of a piano, mostly in shadow. Close frame of Ryuichi Sakamoto's face while he is playing. Closeup Ryuichi Sakamoto playing the piano. His hands and the piano keys are visible. They are also reflected in the piano. Ryuichi Sakamoto seated at the piano, playing. Most of the image is shadowed, except for the acoustic wall panels in the background.

I recently found that Roger C. Sharpe's amazing book "Pinball!", with beautiful photographs by James Hamilton, is available on the Internet Archive! It really captures the feel of mid/late 1970's pinball. archive.org/details/pinb... #pinball
Two pages from the book "Pinball!", one showing a series of triptychs of people playing pinball, opposite a closeup of the feet of someone playing a pinball machine. 3 black & white photos of pinball bumpers, along with some text describing what a bumper is, and a schematic illustration showing the different parts of a pinball bumper. Three photographs show a mother and child playing pinball, a teenager watching a pinball game, and a young woman in shorts and a bikini top playing pinball. An illustration showing a person's stance at a pinball machine, and several paragraphs of text describing "How To Play Pinball."

Decided to stuff the audit data from the #TZ into a mysql DB, it's easier to work with there. Looking to print session data (session = collection of games), possibly into a bsky post or a blog entry or something? It's starting to come together! Still lots of data to mine. #pinball

Finally found the right utility to control the USB hub in the Pi5 so that it can bring the WPC printer board up properly without needing to reboot the Pi! Now I can just leave the Pi on all the time and the perl script can do it all itself. This was the last stumbling block for this stage!
pimon output showing the script detecting the current state properly, resetting the USB hub in the Pi5, and then successfully detecting the WPC printer board and reading data from it.

Party like it's 1996! USB serial ports are just as finicky as I remember, but I think I've got reading from the #TZ printer board mostly sorted out. (And keeping with the 90's theme, pinmon is a few dozen lines of sweet sweet perl code.) #pinball

With help from my good friend Grue, we were finally able to get the printer board I bought back in July working in my pinball machine this weekend! It pipes all the juicy audit data from the game out a serial connection, which l've hooked up to a Pi so l can capture and parse it. #pinball #TZ

Finished the big zpool re-org over the holiday break, it worked out quite nicely. Boosted space on the big /media zfs mount by a few dozen TB and then waterfalled the old disks into the other pools. This also got rid of the last of the SMR 8TB disks which worked well but I'm happy to end that era.
Listing of zpools on my main file server, total usable space 189TB, raw space is about 250TB. (Lots of redundancy on the critical zpools.)
