This morning is one of my favourite sessions to teach - postgrad hist of tech seminar on domestic technologies. So much fun to talk tech and kitchens, industrial design, food prep, cleanliness, consumerism, craft and hobbies, feminism and gendered work, energy use, and the list goes on...

Ok my brain is clearly fixated on rewriting my pharma & risk lecture. Just saw a bus go by and at first thought it said 'Zoloft is our sacred duty." Obviously it said 'Zakat' not Zoloft!

On way to conference sessions in Berlin walked through Bebelplatz. There's a plaque reminding us this is where the Nazi burned books containing scientific and scholarly knowledge they didn't agree with. I wish this was not relevant to our contemporary situation.

“Every time you go to your doctor or get treated by a nurse, there’s a chorus of researchers, public health workers, policy experts, epidemiologists and advisory panels arrayed behind them, aided by laboratories, databases, websites… Our current government seems determined to wrench this away”

I don't care if the OED says it was first used in 1839. 'Unputdownable' should not be a word.

In one class this week I will be talking about the weird, weird world of US direct-to-consumer pharma ads for my UK students. Such an accepted background part of US life to have the tv shouting stats and happy patients at us, but to folks from elsewhere they are just utterly insane.

Have been quiet on the birdie app for a while in prep for leaving it. But yeah, definitely closing that account out now, and hoping that (once my marking is done!) I'll be back to enjoying this lovely place.

I have 3 other lovely pens in my pen case today, all of them pricier, but the one that appeals this morning is my trusty Platinum Prefounte. First fountain pen I bought, still going very strong at least 3 years later, worth many times the £8 I paid for it! #fountainpens #cheapthrills
