I made this with Ollin, a creative coding framework for Swift and Metal. I wrote it for my sketches and use it every day. It is open source, in case anybody wants to play with it: ollin.art

Ollin traces the caustics, the light the glass bends onto the table. It splits that light by color like a prism, so little rainbows spill out around the drops.

Another reimplementation of a 2021 sketch, where gooey blobs moved on Lissajous curves. Now they melt together into drops of dark glass. S/N: 2026.014 #creativeCoding #generativeArt #dailySketch #ollin #caustics

Now the blobs are metaballs, soft shapes that merge when they get close, and Ollin stacks their outlines into a 3D solid with marching cubes. The flat top is the newest shape, and each white ring is an older outline.

Three lines moving on Lissajous curves. The colors come from a complex logarithm, implemented in a shader with Ollin's complex number helpers. Each pixel adds up the angles from one end of each line to the other. S/N: 2026.012 #creativeCoding #generativeArt #dailySketch #ollin #complexNumbers

Each line is added as light, like a long exposure, so the color builds up where it slows down. The space between them gets a Laplace fill in Ollin: each empty pixel becomes the average of its neighbors.

This time the drawing is made of real 3D shapes in Ollin, with lights, shadows, and a camera going around them.

Each dial has a different number of rings, with its own widths, speeds and order of the five colours. This time it uses Ollin's depth-of-field rendering, so the focus moves across the grid.

Another depth-of-field sketch with a five-sided aperture. The tower is a stack of square outlines, each turned a little from the one below it. Lines and dots fall through it, and the ones out of focus come out as pentagons. #creativecoding #generativeart #dailysketch #ollin #bokeh

The ground is parallel lines over hills made with noise, and the small lines going through it slide up and down. The particles land close together near the focus and spread out away from it, so those parts look soft.

There is no blur filter here. Each line is drawn as particles, and each particle goes to a random place inside a sphere that grows as it gets farther from the focus. On their own they are just scattered dots. Each frame contains about 232 million of them, and together they simulate a real lens.

Fish have committed credit card fraud
Credit card fraud
Black neon tetras committed credit card fraud during a 2023 livestream by "Mutekimaru Channel" on YouTube. The owner was using motion-tracking software to turn the fish's movements into Nintendo Switch inputs, letting them "play" video games. 8 In 2020, the fish beat Pokemon Sapphire after 3,195 hours, a feat that takes about 30 hours for a typical human. 9/ 181 On January 14, 2023, Pokémon Violet crashed at 1,144 hours, giving the fish free access to the main menu. They entered inputs that opened Nintendo eShop, added 500 yen ($3.85 USD) to their owner's account, and exposed his credit card details on the livestream. 10) 11) Mutekimaru later requested a refund of the 500 yen from Nintendo. l12)
"Fish eagerly read the terms and conditions. Many of us humans don't read the terms of service, but fish are smarter than we are"
- caption from Mutekimaru in a video about the incident 12)
The fish also downloaded an N64 emulator, set up PayPal, used reward points to buy an avatar, and changed Mutekimaru's Nintendo account name to
"ROWAWAWA*". 13, After about seven hours, their movements shut down the Switch. 14)

If you speak two languages well, have you tried counting to 10 in alternating languages? I found it surprisingly mind-bending.

What hurts the most is how suddenly he left. But in truth, no one ever really leaves completely. We love and miss you so much, Pá’. Rest in peace. We carry you with us and will remember you always.

I hope I can be the same kind of example for my children, and give them the same love he always gave us. We never lacked anything. He always reminded us to keep studying, to keep working, and to always move forward.

Seeing him in his lab coat made me believe that all scientists wore one, although I later found out that wasn’t really the case (except for that week we visited the local hospital during a research trip from graduate school).

My dad had a collection of thin 5-inch floppy disks with games and 16-color animations covering all the school classes. I think it was a Commodore 64. What I clearly remember is that all the programs were written in BASIC, even though I didn’t understand anything about programming yet.

Among many memories, I remember when he started managing the computer lab at the middle school. The only computer I had seen until then didn’t have a monitor—you had to connect the cables to a VCR and then to the TV.
