Really flat… and we’re incredibly lucky to emerge with anything. We were just never able to gain proper control of the game, and with Palace having the run of the midfield, we looked stretched at the back and disjointed going forward. The Premier League keeps throwing up problems to solve. #lufc

Pretty turgid stuff… not enough snap or fluency in our game at all so far. Palace are well organised and have looked menacing on the break, and other than the odd run from Okafor and Gabi, we’ve not threatened their back four consistently enough. Another gear needed. #lufc

Impressive stuff. Physical and combative, with threats from everywhere, not least the wing backs. Did become a bit like Hudds in the 2023/24 season… went 4-0 up and lost a bit of intensity, which stuffed up the clean sheet, but that was domination for an hour. Could/should have been 6 or 7. #lufc

Oooof…! Have some of that. Was a bit worried about that 5-10 minute spell when Newcastle we’re pressing high and releasing runners, but we wrested back control and never let go. Tanaka, Stach, Bogle and Okafor the architects but DCL brilliant up top. That header was pure brutalism. #lufc

This weekend’s results are showing that it’s going to be another dogfight to steer clear of relegation… talk of Europe is daft, imo. Our primary job is stay up and earn another summer of squad upgrades and get us to the West Stand rebuild. I don’t really care how we achieve it, either. #lufc

Evolving to a 352/343 was our saving grace last season... but after Brentford, Brighton and Chelsea, I'm wondering whether reverting to a back 4 might be in order in certain games. 4141, say, with Ampadu as the 1 (almost a 3rd CB) and an extra body in MF and the FBs narrower. #lufc

Chastening. It wasn’t a full-strength team, no, but there aren’t too many mitigating factors when you ship 6… and we have a right to expect more from those CBs, Longstaff and Wilson. We also need to rethink this shape when we face top-quality 10s; been our undoing a few times since the switch. #lufc

Well on top without creating a whole heap… the performances of Nmecha and Aaronson were almost self-parodying. But the back 3/5 and the CM pair took control from around 15 minutes and it looks very much like grizzled vets vs U21s. Bahoya debut coming up? #lufc

Thought Tanaka was terrific but the formation didn’t do Stach many favours… 2nd half required another MF presence and/or a better outlet. We still lack a real CM ball carrier. But we’re still 4 points better off from these same fixtures last year… and that’s 2 tough away trips behind us now. #lufc

That was #lufc’s 3rd Prem transfer window under Farke and of our promotion team, only Bogle, Ampadu and, when fit, Rodon are nailed-on starters, with Aaronson, James, Gruev and Tanaka as squad options. That’s an efficient rebuild for c£150m net spend – especially when preserving unity/identity.

Really enjoying digging into the new #Interpol album... but it's another that, on the first couple of listens, could have benefitted from an edit. Keep it to 10 tracks, ditch the last 2 (low-energy sketches, at best), end on the mesmeric Enemy and you have something to rival Antics.
