Still, it is a very good reason to close our borders for fakks sake it is long overdue anyway.

I'm afraid in Russia, the "bitten by a flea" rate is slightly higher than among us.

It was no "peace deal", just surrender deal killing Ukraine for decades.

I mean, why didn't you? YET?

Sorry for nitpicking, but - "alleged verbal promise" is 1990, "ratified treaty" is 1997.

I hate to say it, but maybe he has a point

That is the point, no matter what you said.

I'm from Eastern Europe. We saw a lot of democracies fall. There was always "last chance" election, when evil things could still have been stopped. EG the last elections to Romanian parliament was 1937. Everybody hated the two mainstream parties, so the fascists won. The next election was in 1990.

She is not talking on "how the US was going to restructure the Ukrainian parliament post-Maidan", but on "what new government the Ukrainian parliament will elect".

I will just say you watched too many podcasts. Do you also believe that the Earth is flat? Plenty of podcasts about it, they can't be wrong.

In Belarus, it still exists as KGB. In Russia, it was renamed FSB.

She was absolutely NOT talking about "t how the US was going to restructure the Ukrainian parliament post-Maidan". She was talking about how the Ukrainian parliament will elect new government.

My apologies again. My sarcasm decoder got overload.

So you were THAT sarcastic? My apologies, it blews the fuses of my too mild Eastern European sarcastic machine..

Next time someone is serving you a pint, it is very likely someone from Ukraine. Instead of objecting, be happy they are there for you (and your GDP).

I'm not American, I'm from Europe. I was thinking of a comment, but I decided not to post it. There is a GIF about someone facing my situation.

Fellas, we are doing a live saving service here. Medvedev already was the president. Even it if was all make-believe, it makes him #1 contender in the future succession war. So his survival strategy is "come on Vova, I'm too drunk to be taken seriously". Let's laugh to save a human soul!

Your goal seems to be Ukraine re-colonized by Russia.

Russia and China don't need wars to murder people. In fact, when the fighting stops, real murdering begins. In the same period you mentioned, China murdered dozens of millions of their own people for Mao crazy ideas. You think US is most evil because you don't know other nations than US.

I'm a foreigner! I was asking for genuine curiosity. Looks like your Greens want Ukraine to be overrun by Russians while also declaring verbally support for Ukraine. Am I getting it wrong? Which part?

"We totally affirm Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and also we do not want Ukraine to be able to defend them because we are a party of principles". Am I getting his position right?

Living under Russian domination is hell. Living in the West is paradise (in comparison). Only in this meaning "the West created this contradiction" - Ukraine wants to join the West to enjoy the same quality of living and avoid Russian misery.

Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 7h
No, "novorossia" surely is a red flag.
010
Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 7h
And yet, Russia bombs you for no reason whatsoever, they are not even after your resources (they destroyed most of the Donbas mining infrastructure during their invasion). It's always easier to make a deal with someone who is after the money.

Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 7h
You are not "questioning the narrative on Ukraine", you are reposting Russian propaganda on Ukraine. Your typical statement on Ukraine is like "we do not support Russia, but Ukraine should be forced to surrender" (this royal we makes it even more annoying).

Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 7h
And that's a very important distinction. America is after profit. Very shameful, surely, but it also means usually they let you live to deliver this profit. Russia is after genocide for sake of genocide. They don't need to see the profits, just dead bodies.

Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 7h
Yes, using that one is indeed a red flag

Umm you really don’t know Russian history lol.

Don't want to spoil the fun, but this "Russian message" is "Kaliningrad will be liberated". It is actually pretty anti-Russian and probably machine translated.

In Russia, they are not possible until Russia goes through very deep change - the one that happens to countries after a lost war.

Do you know what a synecdoche is? Lada in my comment was one. It's not like everything else Russian- or Soviet- made was good, only Ladas were crappy. On the contrary. Russia simply never made anything you would want to use, from cars to home appliances.

Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 9h
Russia started this war with bombing Kyiv. They were always as cruel in their attacks as possible - these attacks were made possible by Trump who refused to deliver anti air missiles.

Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 10h
What you said is wrong. It is not true that "none of those countries offered the decision to their public". Some did, some did not. Makes little difference - in democracy, you make most decisions by voting for this party of that party. Some democracies do not have referenda on anything at all.

Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 10h
So was I (in reality, it's not even legally possible).

The first time I heard of his existence was due to his Cornell comments and I'm still aghast (or whatever English idiom is appropriate?) that someone can like this kind of media personality. "S.H.S.O look" was exactly my first thought when I first saw him, last week.

Most of them are honest, hard working people. If you throw them all, you kill your own GDP. Sure, some of them are taking various forms of welfare, but as a net, they are always net positive contributors whenever they are.

"a small country" - so from "Ireland is helping" you move to "Ireland can't help because it's so small". With that, I can actually agree. However, you could also stop that Aughinish thingy, you are big enough for it.

It's not about "every single Russian", it's about their culture. Your country is famous for being a melting pot, many people from different cultures come to you and - typically - blend into your culture. Sometimes they even put milk in their tea (yuck!). Culture can be changed.

Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 10h
We understand Russia, because we share a considerable portion of history. For a typical Eastern European country, there's a period of 200-300 years of Russian colonization. So we learn Russian history by learning our own (first at school - and bookworms like me do more reading afterwards).
000
Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 10h
But anyway, at some point you should pay some attention to your so called "parliament". Do you need my help to locate it? When I went there, I bought myself a souvenir tea cup with your parliament on it. Beautiful place, even if you don't vote.
000
Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 10h
Agree 110% on that, but some people in your country make the crazy jump to false conclusion - "it is pointless to even vote". I'm glad we are on the same page here: it's not enough but it does not mean you should not vote blue.

I'm not here to discuss Middle East. I'm here to explain Eastern Europe to Westerners (hence the handle).
000
Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 10h
On your level, you don't understand Eastern Europe as a whole. Someday maybe you will advance to the point where you will be able to spot and appreciate all the nuances differentiating Czechia and Slovakia or Latvia and Estonia, but you are very far from that point, yet.
000
Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 11h
Of course not, you are different (even if you speak similar languages. How "Russia" got their name? Are you really asking? I'm happy to educate you on that, but is it a genuine question?

Eastsplaining @eastsplaining.bsky.social · 11h
That's how democracy works. Many democratic countries do not have the institution of referendum at all.
