This month’s Weegie Word is one that we hope will describe Unconfined: Hoachin'! We’ve had many bustling Eastercons in Glasgow, and we hope 2027 will be another! Meaning very busy, even overrun, when fans swarm in, cramming the halls and bar, we'll be able to say it’s hoachin!

If you’re starting to plan your visit to Glasgow for Unconfined - gaun yersel! Many cultures have words with many meanings, and 'gaun yersel' is one of them. Used to encourage and congratulate, Glaswegians use this to tell that you can do it, and say well done for doing it too! #weegie #glaswegian

Can’t believe it’s just over six months until Unconfined, you might want to use our Weegie Word of the month: aye right! Sceptical two positives can make a negative? 'Aye right' is the way to express your feelings! Each word means 'yes', but together, they're a sarcastic expression of disbelief.

I’ve been attending conventions since 1980. For many years I just enjoyed them as provided to me, but I felt the I’d like to contribute too. I gophered at a few cons, was the gopher parent at another, and then started helping with green room, mostly at Satellites.

So why volunteer? As an older bloke, I’ve found myself back in the city where I was born, with a bit more time on my hands than I used to have. I’ve been an SF fan for decades, and when I bumped into someone I’ve known for years who’d started volunteering for Eastercon, it made me curious.

Hi, I’m Ila (right), the Promotions head for Unconfined, and this is how I got here. I’m not sure how old I was and I’m not sure what convention I was at (maybe 14, maybe Satellite), but I do remember being in the Crowne Plaza hotel handing out stacks of warm, freshly printed newsletters.

A photo of 4 friends stood together wearing Glasgow 2024 Staff badges. On the left is a tall white man with long brown hair in a ponytail. He is wearing a black leather jacket with a Hellfire shirt. Next to him is a tall white woman wearing glasses, with bleach-blonde hair in a ponytail. She is weaeing a dark blue cardigan and a brown and purple tshirt. Next to her is a white woman with curly ginger shoulder-length hair. She is wearing round glasses and a yellow tshirt with the phrase ‘sounds gay I’m in' on the right chest. Next to her is a mixed race person with dark shoulder-length hair and clear-rimmed glasses. They are wearing a black and white hawaiian shirt. All four are holding their staff badges up to the camera and smiling.
