A gram of baking yeast has ~20 billion cells. Humanity produces ~1–2 million tons of yeast a year. That means we run something like 10²³ living organisms through ovens/fermenters every year and have for centuries. On the bright side, they die doing what they love: eating sugar and making alcohol.
