It's that time of the week again! Today, we're sharing Chalk, a document editor that shows how apps that need fine-grained permissioning can be built on spaces. Chalk is built on our last three releases!

Just saw a post on here about reciprocal AI norms, and how it is not appropriate to send people AI generated code without validating it yourself. I've been thinking the exact same thing recently, but now I can't find the post! Seriously I've been searching for an hour, does anyone have the link?

Had a great call with @offline.arushibandi.com who is building @habitat.network The team has launched the first version of their Habitat Hub, and their first local first **private data** app - a collaborative notes editor, Habitat Docs habitat.network/habitat/docs
Screenshot of Habitat Docs https://habitat.network/habitat/docs

Title says Habitat Notes with the following text:

Habitat has a "hub" for all of your personal data -- both public atproto and their own private data, local first implementation.

Their first app is Habitat Docs - a simple multi-person Markdown editor. All of the data is private!

You share to others using their atproto handle.

Maybe we do a community load test soon? Probably needs a feature for "open" sharing, that anyone can join?Screenshot of the share modal in Habitat Docs, where you add by handle. I've already shared with ArushiScreenshot of a modal showing the markdown that is supported, as well as keyboard shortcuts

Yes was going to take a temperature check at the next Boston meetup! Will write more on this later, but I got some hunches that building custom apps for small communities might be more viable these days. I think there are several cool atproto community specific features that would be fun to do

The other reason is that at some point we’d like to build a management pane to see the global view of all permissions you have granted. This isn’t easy to do if the UCAN is being delegated / sub-delegated

There is a bunch of speculative protocol creation in this post, so would love to hear what everybody thinks! Are the benefits worth the drawbacks? Is there another way we can make AppViews work for small world cases? Should something other than the PDS handle the new protocol elements we described?

In part 2 of our calendar series, I explore what it would actually take to build a permissioned data app without AppViews. There are a couple twists and turns along the way, but in the end, we got a fully functional app 📆

For the same reasons, the likelihood AppViews take advantage of grey areas is a lot higher. They might be using your data for training models, or to help target ads. If an AppView does these, do you sign a terms of service agreement with them?
