As for Menendez, the elephant in the room is his father, but he's shown himself to be his own man. In my dealings with him, Rep. Menendez has proven himself to have a solid grasp on transit policy and a record of delivering for his congressional district. He earned my vote.

At the end of the day, I think primary challenges are good. I applaud Mussab for jumping into the race so voters can have a real election but I cannot vote for Ali. He doesn't have a consistent record or enough experience to meet the critical moment we're in.

And another area where Menendez is a clear winner is on resiliency. I was especially impressed with his answer around Rebuild by Design.

Unlike Streets PAC NJ, which endorsed Ali, I think Menendez is a clear winner on street safety. His advocacy in Congress has brought real dollars and change to some dangerous and unpleasant streets, including a redesign of the Holland Tunnel approach and improvements along 440.

Transit is an area where Menendez has been a mixed bag. His past support of the Turnpike widening was disappointing, but his advocacy for improved PATH service was helpful in making weekend service better. We will continue to push him to support further reforms.

On housing, Menendez has a record of supporting legislation to help create more supply and address the affordability crisis. His answers were nuanced and thoughtful. Ali, despite claiming to be a YIMBY, all too often resorts to counter-productive attacks on "luxury" development.

We may get the council to exempt buildings that don't require a site plan. Planning apparently wanted to exempt 5-over-1 construction too. Then again, our Planning Division also though curtains and blinds satisfied the ordinance (they don't, apparently). Whole thing's a mess but Solomon wants it.

This is a big reason I support projects like the Albion Hotel right on the pedestrian plaza in Jersey City. It’s a good way to expand our tax base, support local businesses, and take advantage of New York’s failures. Instead we’re letting an old bank building rot away because of NIMBY opposition.

Safe streets are not optional but the danger we face daily is a choice: poor road infrastructure, lack of enforcement, and large vehicle sizes. The Dutch "Stop de Kindermoord" movement remade their cities and roads to serve people, creating safety for families of all ages.

Katie Brennan in LD-32 for her positions on land use and zoning reform. Vote for Bhalla, Ramirez, and Saleh as you see fit. Do not vote for HCDO-backed Fonseca & Pu. betterblocksnj.org/2025/06/08/e...

Barbara McCann Stamato in LD-31 for her support of Liberty State Park and her work trying to find a compromise to prevent the full Turnpike widening in Jersey City. Do not vote for HCDO-backed Walker or Sampson due to their support of the Turnpike.

I can't wait for the primary to be over so Jersey City Twitter can go back to our regularly scheduled program of dunking on Jim McGreevey. For example, we can call this element of McGreevey's housing plan "pray-to-play."

@talyaschwartz.bsky.social is too kind here. A large portion of the lobbyists' comments were actually focused on buttering up Chairman O'Connor and attacking politicians speaking out on the project as "opportunists." All while the same lobbyists' clients were busy donating to buy HCDO support...

When I look back on Murphy's second term, it's a list of disappointments: -NJTransit decaying -OPRA gutted -The Liberty State Park fight -Property tax giveaways to older, wealthier residents -$11B to donors with the Turnpike expansion -Tammy for Senate -The Pompidou revenge tour What was the point?

This checks out. 🙄 @govmurphy.bsky.social is pushing the useless Turnpike expansion, which Sampson supports. Murphy also signed the act that nearly privatized Liberty State Park. And Jerry Walker took a $250k donation from Fireman to push it on Jersey City. hudsoncountyview.com/murphy-backi...

There are a variety of bills in Trenton related to housing affordability. At @betterblocksnj.bsky.social, we will be writing about all of them soon. One of the best pieces of legislation would allow mid-rise apartment buildings to have one stairwell, lowering costs and increasing living space.

I'm pissed the city council tabled the contract to build a playground on Barrow Street after listening to Councilmen Boggiano and Rivera support parking over parks. Kids deserve space on the plaza, too. It's a good spot for a mini-park. It's always two steps forward and one step back in this city.

Whether it's keeping Liberty State Park free from commercialization or investing in new urban parks, the best cities have plentiful access to outdoor spaces. We want to see the Bergen Arches, the Embankment, and the Hudson-Essex Greenway add to the richness of our public places. 8/

Traffic deaths are preventable. Vision Zero is a model that can save 700 lives a year statewide. We'll advocate for vibrant communities built around public spaces from local parks to walkable streets with infrastructure to keep pedestrians, bike riders, and motorist safe. 7/

New Jersey is facing sky-high housing demand and surging prices as our population grows. Affordability comes from abundant housing supply. Better blocks start with better land use: more homes near transit, shops residents can walk to, and neighborhoods designed for people. 4/

Better Block's goal is to ensure the progress cities like Jersey City have made—on housing, Vision Zero, and urban vitality—continues and can be replicated in communities across Hudson County and New Jersey. We want to make smart growth the norm, not the exception. 2/

From the other place… I’m still honestly shocked how brazen McGreevey has been over raising and accepting money from MAGA Republicans in his bid for Jersey City mayor. They clearly see some alignment or affinity for his policies which should give us all pause. Why does HCDO back this?

Eric Allen Conner @eaconner.bsky.social · 11/04/2025
@jerseycitytimes.bsky.social: you should probably have an editorial note that Pawel here is 1) an elected Republican; 2) lives in another town; and 3) has endorsed Solomon’s mayoral rival Jim McGreevey. Best to make sure biases and conflicts of interest are disclosed. Even in Op Eds.

My local neighborhood association just sent this out. All of us downtown should be supporting and not opposing this project. It will bring new restaurants and entertainment to the pedestrian plaza, strengthen our local businesses, and make it harder for AirBnBs to profit from our neighborhood.

Two months in to congestion pricing and traffic on NJ’s highways is still noticeably lighter during rush hour with fewer backups at interchanges that used to be snarled with traffic.

We’ve seen months of hearings between the owners and zoning that have delayed work from starting on the Albion Hotel. This project will bring new jobs, new customers to Newark Ave, new amenities, and more competition for AirBnB. The bank building is growing mildew while we wait.

At the end of the interview Presinzano defends Garage B as a revenue source, walks back the educational facilities ask (admin was considering it), complains 25 stories is too tall, literally mentions it’s “his backyard,” and says it’s too much affordable/workforce housing. 2/4

I think this weird little piece of Jersey City history is worth saving and is better off left as a quirky building than a dismal alley-way sized “park.”

This is what you’re applauding when you celebrate unilateral and illegal executive action to cancel congestion pricing. It’s time to resign. You cannot govern NJ if 1) you cannot respect the rule of law; or 2) you pay homage to a man who has denigrated his office.

My co-author and I have questions as to why JCRA is not pushing for developments that would provide more affordable housing on city-owned land downtown and in Journal Square when current zoning could allow for over 100 new affordable housing units across the two properties.

Dynamic toll pricing not only will ensure NJ's own roadways stay free-moving but the additional revenue raised can be used to fund @njtransit.bsky.social that has a long list of capital projects that can help NJ get more workers into the City (HBLR, West Shore Rail, etc.) /4
020
Eric Allen Conner @eaconner.bsky.social · 10/01/2025
With that in mind, dynamic tolls change the price to drive on a road based on demand. This is similar to @stevenfulop.bsky.social's suggestion to implement congestion pricing in NJ but easier to implement on GSP Express, I-78 Express, and the middle carriageways of the Turnpike. /3

Murphy proposes an $11B widening of the Turnpike in Hudson County. It was a bad idea before congestion pricing; now it looks like complete folly. Putting a price on traffic does more to alleviate it than highway widening can ever hope to accomplish. /2

Eric Allen Conner @eaconner.bsky.social · 07/01/2025
Hey @govmurphy.bsky.social: Congestion relief pricing seems to be weakening “the case” for the unnecessary and wasteful $11B Turnpike widening project you have planned for Hudson County. Maybe it’s time to pull the plug and divert some more NJTA funding to @njtransit.bsky.social operations?

I’d like to know how these two positions aren’t contradictory— they’re opposed to townhomes because it will “raise property values” (presumably by removing blighted property) but, at the same time, they want a single family homes that will remove the blighted property and raise property values…

Dear Driver in Jersey City, Don’t be like this. 1) You parked on the curb; 2) you cut me and my 6 year old off without looking; and 3) you left your car running while you went into the store. Somehow I suspect you’re the type of person who complains about the “damned” bike lanes.
