Is that what we're calling the "versatility in trombone management" award these days?

In many ways, the book improves on the audio: it makes the Tower of London setting nicely grounded, has a nifty reference to Dalek and generally succeeds in making this English dystopia feel more believable if you're not a big fan of absurdism.

I hate it when I know who the winner is. Should have more Jon Fosse and Han Kang-type candidates

Parks and Recreation suffered from contact with political reality. Looking back it's so blithe in its Obama-era certainties it's just obnoxious.

Saying this, I realise Moffat's Dracula went from the horror peak of BBC drama to limp aimless finale over the course of 3 evenings.

I'm going to say The Haunting of Bly Manor across a whole 9 episodes. What started as an interestingly populist take on HJ's very literary, ambiguous ghost stories, turned into a bunch of schlocky twists and tiresome exposition about how ghosts work. Talk about missing the point!

If you fancy something more entertaining but probably less reliable, BB's Absolute Pandemonium is a hoot, especially as an audiobook

Have they tried just tipping their Jameson's into their Murphy's? (I know I have, but I can't remember what happens next.)

I hope you're very interested in Shakespearean theatre in the UK circa 1970, because that's clearly where his heart is! It's not dull, though. My big regret is you never get a sense of what it's like hanging out with Sir Ian or what they talk about.

BBC in the UK has just dropped the whole 23-episode first season of Krapopolis, and as someone who was subsisting on a 10-week dribble of bad Futurama episodes, it feels like a lifesaver.

Terrible series, great cliffhanger, never-to-be resolved. Best left to the few dozen people invested enough to buy the Big Finish stuff.

It creeps up on you. Before you know it, you're actually singing along. Then they switch it to an instrumental version that's somehow MUCH worse...

Actually it was lemon juice at first; the switch to limes came later, when the age of sail was largely over and no-one was away from port long enough to get scurvy anyway. This meant no-one noticed that a) lime juice has much less vitamin C b) their method of preparation got rid of the rest.

Huh, I thought this was the Ritchson/Wilson vehicle. Crazy they've got 2 movies out with the same title in the same year.

The novel can't top the audio drama, for my money, despite some lovely lines like 'The turkey was dead, to begin with.' On audio McGann's sardonic performance perfectly mocks the plot's aristocratic obsession with class, but on the page 8 comes across as bland as he did in the BBC books range.

The worst you can say is it's not that interested in being an Alien movie, but I prefer that to the slavish imitation and misbegotten callbacks of Romulus.

Covenant was actually great. I want more Fassbender-on-Fassbender action, misattributed Romantic poetry, Leonardo da Geiger themed production design and 100x magnified shots of alien spores floating into human ears.

This beautiful woodcut print is Evening Glow at Seta by master Japanese printmaker Utagawa Hiroshige. It comes from a series called Eight Views of Ōmi which celebrates Ōmi province (modern Shiga prefecture) in both poetry and art.
A colour woodcut print of the evening sun in Seta. There is a river with boats through the centre, and mountains in the background.A colour woodcut print of the evening sun in Seta. There is a river with boats through the centre, and mountains in the background.

Fair play to Andy Burnham, "Everyone in for Christmas" is a specific and measurable target that's also an emotive and instantly understandable piece of political messaging.

That's how our relationship has worked out--I can cook but I find it reasonably stressful and a lot of my go-to dishes don't interest her. That said, if she was away for the week it would definitely be asparagus and poached egg on toast time. 😋

UK specific, but there was a 70s novelty record scene that became children's music, and it was fascinating to me that my grandparents wouldn't let my mum sing 'My old man's a dustman' because they thought it was vulgar.
