In this dark time, I find comfort in the deterministic glow of PostgreSQL. Over 15 years now and it has never failed me. #postgresql

Don you want a frame? How about proper waist straps? Can’t go wrong with osprey anything, just so many options. I really like their older designs, found this one at a used gear store.

This wizzard is leading the current round of NRCS RIFs, masked as a reorganization. If the reorg happens as planned, NRCS and the US Soil Survey will be ruined. 100+ years of hard work protecting our nation’s soil resources, squandered. Your tax dollars wasted, our future food supply jeopardized.

Well done @olivia.science, these are the concise responses many of us understand intuitively but may not be quick enough on our feet to articulate when necessary. olivia.science/ai/#allies

Accidental art while working with landform classification (geomorphons), generated in GRASS GIS, visualized in QGIS. The colors and patterns are strangely prescient: human greed spilling both blood and oil, contaminating social and natural systems.
Terrain-like features symbolized with red and black.

Playing with the ggraph package. There are some neat layouts available; I find the circle-packing layout is especially interesting. Here are the first four levels of Soil Taxonomy, with circle size proportional to "area mapped" in the US.

I needed something outside of politics for a few hours. Adding family mineralogy classes (from Soil Taxonomy) to SoilWeb/STE in the next release. These are very broad groupings of soil minerals that can have profound effects on use/management. kaolinitic (R), siliceous (G), smectitic (B):

Great reference, thanks for sharing. You can imagine the damage caused by future runoff or dust. You can "see" the Red Hills in imagery, or have a look at the local Soil Survey. Details in ALT text. casoilresource.lawr.ucdavis.edu/gmap/?loc=37...
A view of the USDA-NRCS detailed soil survey near Keystone, CA. The abrupt transition between metavolcanic rocks (south west) → serpentenite (north east) is visible in the satellite imagery. Soil series formed on serpentenite, such as Crimeahouse and Sixbit, are common in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.

This is what it feels like as a federal worker lately. Do what you can to support public service, science, and environmental protection. Our collective health and safety depends on it.
A survey of how one is feeling, similar to what might be displayed in a pediatrician’s office. Near the top of the chart it reads “how do you feel today?”. The chart was created by a child. A pushpin marks 1, on a 10 point scale. Most of the push pin holes are at the low end of the scale.
