Today Microsoft Azure asked me for some feedback. Pretty sure we solved "circles" back in the 1990s. I remember radio buttons working just fine in Netscape Navigator. But maybe AI decided it's better this way. 🤷🏻‍♂️

a feedback form. There are five radio buttons. They are oval, not circular, and the labels above them are badly formatted, don't fit in their enclosing boxes, and in several cases are obscured by their own associated control.

My workstation is a Ryzen 9050 with 128Gb of RAM, an RTX 5070 and three NVMe drives, and it is running Adobe Media Encoder like a very tired tortoise trying to suck treacle through a paper straw. Could we stop dicking about with AI models and get back to making computers faster and betterer please?

I wouldn't call myself a cartoonist, but I had the vision and just needed it to be on paper to the best of my ability.

So… the internet consensus seems to be that this was a total waste of time, that doing this at all makes me literally worse than Satan, and that I deserve to have my house burgled for even considering it. I set up a sandbox machine (Ubuntu 26.04) for running Claude Code in "yolo mode" (--dangerously-skip-permissions). This morning I told it "set up my printer" - that was the entire prompt - and it actually worked... scanned the network, identified the printer, configured CUPS, printed a test page. 🤯

The best way to deal with the hot weather is to watch Channel 4’s 2002 dramatisation of Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic expedition, starring Kenneth Branagh as the eponymous explorer. It evokes the frozen Antarctic so well I believe it is impossible to watch it and not feel cold. 🥶
