I don't think I've ever seen an *interface* described as being in the "uncanny valley" before
screenshot of text that says: The UI is in the uncanny valley of being sorta-WordPress sorta-not. I know it wasn’t a weekend vibecode project, but it has some of that smell. Stuff breaks at the edges.

Enough is enough. I can't stand by while Gaza starves. We owe it to the people of Gaza - to the hostages - and to our own humanity - to stand against this. #endgazastarvation

For #smallpoemsunday, here's one by Joy Harjo, from her book "Poet Warrior"
The Old Ones opened the ears of Girl-Warrior
Tempering the frequency before she left
On her mission.
We are sending you, they said,
To learn how to listen.
There is good in this world.
There is evil.
There is no story without one and the other.
You will be gravity.
You will be feather.
Send each story to the heart,
Each word before you act or speak.

I am living and working in paradise. Banjo, disco ball, hammock, sunlight, garden view: all the essentials!
Photo of the corner of a room, with a banjo hanging on the wall, a disco ball hanging in the window, and spots of light from the disco ball on the wall and ceiling. Through the window you can see a garden with a hammock.

found this century-old poster in the Library of Congress gallery of public domain images. seems relevant again today
An old poster depicting a sleeping woman, wearing a stars-and-stripe bandanna and clad in red, white, and blue garments. The text reads: WAKE UP, AMERICA! CIVILIZATION CALLS EVERY MAN WOMAN AND CHILD!

"Democracies are not normal. Tyranny is the historical norm. If we stopped doing all of the continuous hard work that is needed to maintain our distinctiveness in that regard, we would quickly come into equilibrium with tyranny." --Jeff Bezos, back in 2020
Generic sunset background against which the words of the quote appear: Democracies are not normal. Tyranny is the historical norm. If we stopped doing all of the continuous hard work that is needed to maintain our distinctiveness in that regard, we would quickly come into equilibrium with tyranny.

Please enjoy this tree I photographed earlier this week

"Children, everybody, here’s what to do during war: In a time of destruction, create something. A poem. A parade. A friendship. A community. A place that is the commons. A school. A vow. A moral principle. One peaceful moment." Maxine Hong Kingston, The Fifth Book of Peace

Writing is a tool for discovery, for learning what we really think, and for crafting better stories about who we are. My latest post is about how getting sick on Christmas day led to a creative breakthrough and a new personal and professional commitment for 2025: dylan.tweney.com/breathwork-t...
Vivid orange sunset over a calm ocean. In the foreground, a person in silhouette sits at a picnic table, working on a laptop. Superimposed over the sky are the words: Writing is a tool for discovery, for learning what we really think, and for crafting better stories about who we are.

Ben Worthen of Message Lab talked to me recently about the power of storytelling and how companies need to stop talking so much about their products, and start telling better stories. It was a great conversation - read the whole thing here: dylan.tweney.com/ben-worthen-...

Amazing: Sinbad, the Arabian Nights, and Aesop's fables all have sources in the Buddhist canon!?
"In the last century it was pointed out that the Buddhist Jātaka stories, via a Hindu recension under the title of the Pañcatantra, were translated into Persian in the 6th century at the command of the Zoroastrian king Khusru, and in the 8th century into Syriac and Arabic, under the title Kalilag and Damnag. The Persian translation was later translated into Greek, Latin, and Hebrew and was to form the basis of the collections of stories known as Aesop’s Fables (compiled in the 14th century by a Byzantine monk), the stories of Sinbad, and the Arabian Nights."

Mary Oliver, for #smallpoemsunday
PRAYING

It doesn't have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few word together and don't try
to make them elaborate, this isn't
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.

For #smallpoemsunday, here's a little one by George Oppen ps I hear it's @tomsnarsky.bsky.social 's birthday - happy birthday, Tom!
CARPENTER'S BOAT

The new wood as old as carpentry

Rounding the far buoy, wild
Steel fighting in the sea, carpenter,

Carpenter,
Carpenter and other things, the monstrous welded seams

Plunge and drip in the sea, carpenter,
Carpenter, how wild the planet is.

I sat and watched tide come in for a couple of hours last weekend at my favorite local beach, as the sun rose behind me. Tiny waves were rolling in from the Bay. One yellow leaf turned over and over as the wavelets carried it up onto the rocks.
