"I wanted to hate the closure. I drive for work and have to go from western Addition to Pacifica area multiple times a week. I always enjoyed taking Skyline and UGH to get home and was so annoyed when it closed. I decided to throw myself into it and start taking my dog with me for adventures at OB. I am so conflicted now because- it’s wonderful. I love it. I don’t mind the commute. I want to hate the closure but…..I just don’t anymore. If there was a way to open both directions from Sloat to Skyline that would be huge. As of right now the Northbound lane from Skylone is open but not Sourhbound. That is weird and not at all useful."

But beyond practical benefits and safety, we also wonder about our son’s developmental maturity. If I do this transit dad thing right, my son will grow up knowing how to navigate his city confidently and, eventually, independently.

He’ll learn to embrace neighbors less fortunate than him rather than fear them, with regular, daily interactions showing him that they have more in common than not. He’ll have a relationship with San Francisco that is only possible from sharing space with others not just on the bus but in all the public spaces that make up our civic life.

It's a little hard to buy the throat clearing about not opposing rail, knowing well that for most people the takeaway is: don't build it.

This is not to say Alto shouldn’t be built, nor that it’s a bad idea. The construction and operation of a high-speed rail line would generate growth and socioeconomic value for Canada.

It would create tens of thousands of construction jobs, billions of dollars in new opportunities annually and could help revive Canada’s suffering steel sector (currently dealing with tariff pressures from the United States).

One of the real benefits of high-speed rail development is economic growth. This arises because a new high-speed train makes new forms of economic activity possible.

It reduces the time it takes to travel between cities, making greater connectivity possible, while also increasing tourism opportunities. In theory, it also expands the distance that workers are willing to commute, which could create new housing development opportunities in regions that otherwise would not have experienced them.

Nevertheless, these same benefits potentially undermine some of the environmental arguments for high-speed rail. These new economic opportunities induce new transport demand — not only for the new train but for other modes of travel as well.

Like yes, you have to account for emissions from high speed rail construction. You have my attention. Oh, EVs and electric planes are better options you say? Oh and you didn't account for emissions from manufacturing and infrastructure of those alternatives? Okay (nods head)

Much of the diverted automobile traffic for high-speed rail — by the time the train line is built — will likely come from EVs. That leaves diverting traffic from aircraft as the main way to reduce transport emissions. Yet even this sector is also expected to electrify in the coming decades.

In fact, it is precisely the short-haul flight market within the busy Québec City-Windsor corridor where small electric aircraft are set to debut in Canada. Airlines have already put in orders for electric planes, which may even enter into service before the first rail link is built.

Perfect summation as to why content guard rails against CSAM is a losing battle.

Do you try your damnedest, as a malicious actor would, to make your model produce sexual imagery of children, and risk criminal prosecution?
