Familiarity against a pitcher (even though they can change a lot over the course of career BvP splits) paired with declining stuff, and being on the road (home team uses a Trajekt) seems like a very tough combo. On the other hand, nobody in the majors has taken more than four PA against Ray Kerr.

Also curious about the effectiveness of Noah Schultz if we see him at some point in Game 2. His last regular season appearance was Sept. 26th -- 3.1 IP, he faced 13 batters -- and his four looks out of the bullpen have been pretty good. 8:0 K:BB around two solo homers in a total of nine innings.

In Game 1, the White Sox saw 155 total pitches and swung at 25 outside the zone (third-lowest chase rate in Gm 1s Tue). Fastball command has been a problem for Brown since his return from the IL with a shoulder strain earlier this season. Overall, his Location+ (95) is a career-low this season.

One thing I'm really interested to see in Game 2 of White Sox-Astros is the fastball command for Hunter Brown and whether he chooses to (and can execute) filling up the strike zone. The White Sox were dead last in wOBA against in-zone fastballs at 95+ mph during the regular season.

Since the MLB playoffs expanded, we haven't seen nearly as many climactic Game 3s in the Wild Card round as fans have hoped — 11 out of 16 series ended in 2-0 sweeps. A couple years ago I broke down the math to explain why sweeps are, in fact, mathematically more likely than going three games.
