DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 04/10/2026OK I haven't been updating on this for a while but I did end up buying a separate RAM kit. For the first time since I started doing regular MemTests, I have a PASS at the 2 month mark! Though I had been somewhat avoiding RAM-intensive scenarios this time. Gonna let myself play Minecraft again soon. 020
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Seeing this trend lately and it looked fun. These games are all spaces I grew up in, inspired me to create, influenced my tastes in other games, and/or just had a direct impact. 021

DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 11/07/2026No one's ready for my take yet. (Anything from 2 gens ago is already retro) 110
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 22/06/2026What it feel like whenever my PC is out of commission and I'm forced off of linux back onto my 8 year old windows laptop 030
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 18/06/2026I mean... there IS a context in which people already call it "dub". If it catches on that would be a huge W 010
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 15/06/2026I'm not running them on a higher profile or anything, and from what I remember everything made sense with the baseline specs for the ram kit but I haven't checked what the CPU is rated for yet so I will have to do that 010
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 13/06/2026In the end I think most people are best served sticking with VSCodium, but if you're willing to put a little bit of time into first-time configuration for whatever environment you're working in, Kate should be able to handle like 90% of the same tasks. 000
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 13/06/2026So yeah there's a lot of little annoyances and a few missing things, but there's still a lot to like! There's several builtin plugins like linters, a compiler explorer, calls to external tools. There's a scriptable snippets system that's pretty neat. And best of all it's not an Electron app! 100
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 13/06/2026My one major gripe is that you can't see git diff colors in the gutter. Instead it marks lines that were modified as of opening the file, completely unaware of git. Makes it harder for me to gauge what I've changed without going to the git diff preview (which won't let you edit anything either). 100
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Kate does not have that luxury, but it does at least have a decent LSP client. You have to go out of your way to install (and sometimes configure) language servers yourself but once you do they integrate pretty well. And you can make use of all the language servers that are already made for VSCode. 100
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 13/06/2026That niche being better than Notepad (having actual code editing features) but not as heavy or as specialized as an IDE. VSCode thrives in that space, especially with its massive extensions marketplace that has stuff for practically any language or environment you need. 100
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Been trying out Kate as a replacement for VSCode/Codium (mostly because everytime I see new chat agent features in the changelog a little part of me dies inside) and it's certainly a text editor! There's definitely drawbacks and minor things to get used to but it does fill mostly the same niche. 110
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 13/06/2026There's a prebuilt firmware at sanrax.github.io/flashcart-gu... if you need. It only supports regular DS and modded DSi/3DS thosanrax.github.ioDSpico - Flashcart Guides 110
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 06/05/2026The character redesigns seem to be controversial, there's mixed opinions. I think they look funny as hell 010
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 16/04/2026Got a new motherboard and when I went to swap it out I noticed I had a standoff in the wrong spot 🤦🏽♂️ Anyway I tested my RMA'd RAM and my system's all in order again. Though I'm gonna keep MemTesting for a while to catch it early if there's still something wrong 020
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 13/04/2026They should probably respell Arkansas but it's kinda funny how much it trips up everyone so I get why they don't 010
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 07/04/2026But anyway thank you so much for all your help! I appreciate the advice and guidance, it definitely steered me in good directions and made some of the decisions easier, ty 110
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 07/04/2026Yeah considering that the last 2 kits tested fine initially I'm willing to believe they've never been to blame. I'm still gonna RMA them again, but while that goes thru I guess I'll shop around and see what I can get in terms of a motherboard replacement. Not sure I wanna risk staying w this one now 100
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 07/04/2026And I tested the PSU today! Everything was within the acceptable tolerances and the readings were very consistent, didn't notice anything fluctuating wildly. So I feel I can rule out the PSU at this point. Question is whether to trust that the BIOS was the problem or not before I risk my next kit 100
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 07/04/2026Wasn't able to update the BIOS through the physical button, but doing it from within the bios itself worked fine. Memtest86 still gives errors. And this is TuxTimings with the new bios, looks very similar. Seems GDM is now enabled and command rate changed from 2T to 1T? 100
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 06/04/2026My boot was already broken anyway, already planned to fresh install once this is in order. I've been using a USB live environment to rescue files + do this tuxtimings thing. Yeah I'll give the bios an update then. But aside from that I guess the current plan is just test the PSU at some point tmrw 110
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 06/04/2026And finally the BIOS *is* out of date by like 2 versions, though it was the most recent version for the day I built the PC. And the listed patch notes don't seem to be relevant to this issue as far as I can tell. 100
DVdo @dvdo.bsky.social · 06/04/2026And in terms of the live voltage view I did find github.com/Death4two/Tu... which, assuming I've installed everything correctly, does give me some voltages, but seemingly not all of them. And I've no clue what most of those acronyms mean yet but here they are 100
