Wait what?? You can’t just state they have a third eye and not explain!

I love Libro! Converted me over from Audible. Now I need a good ebook alternative to kindle. Do you have any plans to sell ebooks at any point (hopefully soon)? Or is that not on the table? If so, who would you recommend? I have found a couple but none that work with local shops.

I think potatoes are a super food. Look at what they have done for the world throughout history. But seriously, I think it’s more important to get a variety than focus on the benefits of a single food.

Down hill? Otherwise you are super human because Tour de France participants average 28-31mph overall. I’m by far not the fastest rider, but I can only maintain a little over 20mph on flat for a few miles before I start burning out.

The word was coined by Karel Čapek who is Czech. The word was used in a play he wrote called R.U.R. Although, he credits the word’s creation to his brother. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.U.R.?...

There are some movies I like better than the book. It’s also important to remember that they are different mediums for consuming entertainment. What I look for is if it has the soul of the story in it. Just about anything else can be forgiven/overlooked.

Roku has an app remote, I’m sure Google will have one as well. The Roku wasn’t as seamless as Apple’s, but still better than trying to find the remote.

If I recall from my Android days chrome cast was originally the name for Google’s AirPlay. Whatever it’s called, yes they have screen mirroring. It’s not compatible with AirPlay, but since you have a chromecast you don’t have to worry about compatibility.

And the other big one for me is no video clip history despite having sd cards in all of them. I’m guessing this one is because I don’t have their NVR Without a third party integration I have to go to their app to see this. Which is a big deal when consolidating apps for household members.

I do love all the exposed entities. It’s made it so I can mute the doorbell at night. But the video loading is a hit or miss (taking over a minute to load and jumpy) hard to tell where the fault would be on this, but I have no problems when loading the videos through scrypted.

Is it not this? reolink.com/product/rp-p... Very interested, however I’ve found Reolink’s integration lacking in HA. Would be an instant buy from me if they improved that.

@alexfalcone.bsky.social I could have sworn I saw a video where you talk about nonstick pans, but I couldn’t find it again. With the push to get nontoxic nonstick pans I feel like the market is full of gimmicks. Anyway, seems like something up your aisle.

My old manager told me when he was in college 20+ years ago his professor stated to the class that they shouldn’t get into programming because it would all be automated by the time they finished college. He was grateful that he didn’t listen to that professor.

I will use them in speech, but if I need to write it down I just swap in “impact”. Doesn’t matter how many times it’s explained to me I can’t figure them out.

I think rated voting is the better option. It is less confusing than ranked choice (if done right) and better expresses how voters feel about a candidate. But given the choice between ranked voting and first past the post; definitely ranked choice all the way.

I thought the Humpty Dumpty was a riddle. This would explain why it never refers to him as an egg. For example the riddle “A wee wee man In a red red coat Staff in my hand And a stone in my throat” Flows like a nursery rhyme as well.

We got some a couple years ago. Decided not to get the sound system at the time. Figured we could upgrade later on. Been hesitant since I’m not sure how well the connection would work with Apple TV

With smart home devices only get devices that can function without an internet connection ( look for Matter logo) use something like HomeKit or home assistant. Just a few things to look into if you want to enjoy technology while limiting the risks.

There are lots of resources online that teach internet safety and limit how much they can track you. Give apps on your phone the bare minimum permissions. Use browsers that hide your ip and limit tracking cookies. Give websites the bare minimum details. Just a few simple things.

The clapper never connected to the internet…. Don’t get me wrong, you should be suspicious of anything that has a microphone in today’s world. However, the danger of thinking it’s only the things that have a microphone that are spying makes people overlook the easier ways to keep tabs on all you do.

I just saw a new iteration at an airport that pushed the water down and towards the wall. Didn’t dry my hands all the way, but it contained the droplets really well.

I’ve seen a video where they did a skit making fun of finance bros. But then people started clipping the video and treating it like they were serious. I’m hoping that’s the case here, but hard to tell from the clip.

I look back occasionally at my list of videos that I’ve liked and there’s only like 30 of them. Should be in the hundreds. I’ve seen videos come up again that I know I’ve liked and it’s showing like I’ve never seen it before.

That would only work if the data wasn’t encrypted. At that point starlink could only make the votes unusable. If the data wasn’t encrypted in transit then questions should be raised about the voting machine makers competency in securing any election.

Doing great, just wanted to mention a bug where I swipe up after the current one restarts and it continues the audio while the new one plays. I have to go back to the old video and swipe again to fix it.

I did try that with shortcuts, but a short cut can do it all, so unless you use that scene for other things (which 95% I don't, but that's personal use) there is no reason to have it in two places. The other issue is naming. It will often trigger the scene instead of the shortcut.
000
dvdet.bsky.social @dvdet.bsky.social · 19/03/2025
Yes, scenes can be voice triggered, but not home automations. Scenes are great for static events, but say the movie is over and you want to gradually turn on the lights. Or when I go to bed I don’t just want the lights turned off but an alert if a window or door was left open.

dvdet.bsky.social @dvdet.bsky.social · 19/03/2025
Frankly I think scenes suck. Can’t do much with them. And voice commands can only be done as shortcuts….. unless I missed something.

I’ve tried toggling the setting and even a factory reset and resetting up the HomePod. Sometimes we get a few days with no issues, but it never lasts. I just tell my phone instead since I have the HomePod only listen for “hey siri” and the phone listens for both.
000
dvdet.bsky.social @dvdet.bsky.social · 19/03/2025
I do like that it can be individualized, but why can’t we have general automations for anyone who says the command as well?
100
dvdet.bsky.social @dvdet.bsky.social · 19/03/2025
One thing I can say I wish Siri did better are universal automations based on a phrase. For example I set up a good night shortcut (not a scene) and then I had to add it on my wife’s phone. Every time I update it. I have to update it on her phone.
100
dvdet.bsky.social @dvdet.bsky.social · 19/03/2025
But these issues only happen on the HomePods. Never an issue on my phone. Makes me question the hardware and not the software.

About 25% “hope much time left on the timer” it dismisses it instead. 50% when I tell it to dismiss the alarm it turns on all my led strips throughout the house.

I set up a good night shortcut. Every other night my wife and I have to switch off saying it because it usually tells the first person that we have no smart devices setup We have close to a hundred devices.

I guess I can live with that. Still stupid. I wish I could completely give up Google maps, but unfortunately they seem to struggle with small businesses. I’ve spoken with the business owners and they update on both maps.
