Fun bit of trivia, the helmet that they put on the gorilla was originally made for the Commando Cody serial Radar Men from the Moon. They slapped bunny-ear TV antenna, breathing hoses, and a button on it, but the main structure is there! The collar of the helmet is covered by the space suit costume.

If I had stayed in film school I was going to write my Masters thesis on the relationship between Godzilla films and the Japanese attitude toward nuclear power. Is big G the good guy? Japan had been using it for 5 years when they made a movie with big G vs pollution as its metaphor.

A weird roadside truck stop soft serve ice cream stand was recommended to me, where you can get vanilla, matcha, or mixed soft serve. Options are cup, cone, waffle cone, or BLACK CONE... Surprise, Goth ice cream!

I happen to like pumpkin pie, but haven't had it since I left the USA. When a coworker gave me a kabucha from her garden, I learned how to make it. Then I made a slide and shared the experience with my students, and got them to talk about things they want to learn to do. That's how to not be boring.

I was given a pumpkin by a person at one of the schools I work at and decided to learn how to make pumpkin pie with graham cracker crust from scratch. I took pictures and made this slide to share with my students. After I told them about the ingredients and tools I used I had them break into groups to discuss things they would like to learn to do, and a volunteer from each group shared a few with the class, in English.

I had to run it through Google Lens, and seeing the struggle as Google tries to reconcile the Chinese and Korean (that it has been told is TOTALLY JAPANESE) becomes Dadaist poetry.
