I'll just say again, this is the most talented duo in Japan, but nobody listens to them. The only explanation for them not being bigger is that they're independently wealthy and just doing it for the love of the game. youtu.be/95yluNL-a_4?...

Incredibly powerful woman….Dolly Parton telling the story of how Elvis and his sleazebag manager tried to rob her of 50% of publishing rights for "I Will Always Love You" if Elvis recorded it and she told them NO….she was just 28 years old at the time 💪🙏

in 2005, Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar for Best Original Song for the film Hustle and Flow ("Hard Out Here For A Pimp"). Dolly Parton was nominated in the same category. After celebrating heavily, they had a nice personal note awaiting them when they arrived back home.
An excerpt of the oral history of Three 6 Mafia winning an Oscar in 2005 as told to Variety.

DJ Paul: I woke up in my hotel room the next morning with my housecoat on and a bottle of champagne in my hand, and the phone ringing because the Hollywood Reporter or somebody was calling for an interview and taking pictures of us. Then we did some interviews and flew back home.

When we landed there was so many people in the airport waiting for us, there was applause, the minute we stepped off the airplane people started going crazy, it was almost like a little parade at the airport for us. It was crazy.

Juicy J: When we got back to Memphis, Dolly Parton actually sent us a letter congratulating us and signed it, saying she was just happy [the award] came back to Tennessee.

Yes. This was when the only thing I'd ever heard from Nas was the stupid Oochie Wally song (I don't care if it was big when you were 'outside') so I had always assumed Nas was overrated garbage. I listened to this and I was like 'oh no, this really is the best ever, what happened to him?' LOL

Low key day at the crib and a day off from work so I finally decided to add some more joints to my Sea Soul playlist for the first time since 2024. A darker shade of blue. The yang to yacht rock's yin, if you catch my drift. Sounds best if you're near any sort of water. Enjoy.

thinking about Kelly Clarkson on this day of Clive Davis' passing
Hey y’all,

So I just heard Clive Davis is releasing a memoir and spreading false information about me and my music. I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up his memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans. It feels like a violation. Growing up is awesome because you learn you don’t have to cower to anyone – even Clive Davis.

First, he says I burst into “hysterical sobbing” in his office when he demanded Since You Been Gone be on my album. Not true at all. His stories and songs are mixed up. I did want more guitars added to the original demo and Clive did not. Max, Luke and I still fought for the bigger sound and we prevailed and I couldn’t be more proud of the life of that song. I resent him dampening that song in any way.

But, yes, I did cry in his office once. I cried after I played him a song I had written about my life called “Because Of You.” I cried because he hated it and told me verbatim that I was a “sh*tty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me.” He continued on about how the song didn’t rhyme and how I should just shut up and sing. This was devastating coming from a man who I, as a young girl, considered a musical hero and was so honored to work with.

But I continued to fight for the song and the label relented. And it became a worldwide hit. He didn’t include that in the book.

He also goes on to say My December wasn’t successful because I co-penned the album and it didn’t have “pop hits”. Well, first let me say, I’ve co-penned many of my “pop hits.” Secondly, My December went platinum (It sold 20,000 less than All I Ever Wanted which followed My December.) Hardly a huge failure. Never Again, the ONLY single they released in the US from that record was a Top 10 hit. I am very proud of that and I have my fans to thank. But, again, what’s most interesting about his story is what he leaves out: He doesn’t mention how he stood up in front of his company at a convention and belittled me and my music a…

I know it's largely a matter of semantics, but Spotify turning "liked songs" into a playlist is one of their top 5 dumbest changes. The notion that every song you've ever liked should be one giant playlist is asinine, but then to make it impossible to distinguish liked songs from everything else...

This album I'm listening to went from terrible to incredible and I had to double check to see if it hadn't skipped to something else. Turns out it's a "mixtape"... (I appreciate when people recognize that they didn't make an album, but not everything is a mixtape....)

I have always said I don’t know enough about Prince’s music to have an opinion on it— a nice way of saying I don’t like most of what I’ve heard, which includes a lot of the recommended albums and most of the hits - but every time I see a live clip it’s some song I’ve never heard of and it’s amazing?

I know a lot of people on here are “anti-AI” which is kind of nebulous to begin with, but I have to let people know that the AI-enhanced translation tools (specifically Google’s) that became available a few months ago are startlingly more accurate than everything that came before it.
