New CheckPoint! The PS5 price spike, the AI "games" platform, Beej is—as ever—very normal about Sonic, and I go off on a tear about Bobby Kotick.

I am so glad I escaped the IT mines I once had a support ticket for a user whose hard drive was at capacity. When I asked why they weren’t emptying the recycle bin they said that’s what they used to store everything, cause they could always find it and delete always put it there. I almost cried.

your ISP and start asking the right questions. No, the recent ISP merger didn’t tank your WiFi speeds. Yes, it may have impacted your internet speeds. The two are not the same, and are not interchangeable. Also: wallpaper and screensaver are different things. Your phone does not have a screensaver.

*deep breath* Your WiFi and your Internet Connection are not synonymous. If your WiFi speeds are shit, that’s probably an internal issue. If your internet speeds are shit, that’s probably an external issue. If you don’t understand the difference between a LAN and a WAN then maybe stop griping about

I thought books based on games were supposed to be wildly different. Its a long tradition which includes the insanity which were the Doom novelizations and the Resident Evil books.

Wouldn't that also block the airflow in the fridge as well, making it work harder and possibly cool less? Even if you don't care about the frames, this will kill your appliance

prohibited items than I was drinks. I was more concerned with their technical abilities and ability to adapt to a changing situation rapidly and gracefully than I was if they had something to drink. I cared if they could do the job. I had policies and training to cover everything else.

Lt. Cmdr Keyboard @dunny0.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Because I’ve run many interviews over the past 10 years, and a non-zero number of applicants have brought drinks. Maybe it’s because they are younger, maybe it’s because I live in a desert, but it’s not entirely out of my realm of experience. I was more concerned they didn’t have

Honestly, to me, it wouldn’t be? It’s not my fucking table, it will wipe off, and if it’s that big a deal then I’d have asked facilities to put up a no drinks sign and/or have coasters handy. Which I did at my old office. Because I do like to be prepared.

Lt. Cmdr Keyboard @dunny0.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
This is probably the worst strawman argument I’ve seen in a long time.
000
Lt. Cmdr Keyboard @dunny0.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I don’t know what your damage is, but shitting on a floor is significantly different to me than bringing a drink to an interview. I don’t see a drink as a huge insult to me or my place of business, nor do I see it as a health hazard or something that is quite obviously wrong.

Lt. Cmdr Keyboard @dunny0.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
If you don’t actually give a shit about them reading the room just admit that. Just say you should not have put that in your list of things, because it’s really looking like you care about preparation almost exclusively, to the point of denying them the ability to adapt. Which is fine.
100
Lt. Cmdr Keyboard @dunny0.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
How does any of that apply to “reading the room”? I did say, and I’ll say it again, of the drink became a problem it’d be marks against. But if they read the room and adapted, I’d mark that as being able to learn and adjust on the fly without correction.
200
Lt. Cmdr Keyboard @dunny0.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
So we are operating on different definitions on read the room Here’s the one I was using: See? Real time lived experience, not preparation.
100
Lt. Cmdr Keyboard @dunny0.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Read my original reply. “Marks against them if it becomes a problem” and the rest on how it could demonstrate their ability to read a room. Which you then rapidly backpedaled on. If anyone is moving goal posts it’s you. I’ve been making the same point the entire time.
100
Lt. Cmdr Keyboard @dunny0.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
You’re the one who even brought up having the ability to read the room. If that’s not actually going to be in play then say that. And from the sounds of it, it’s not.
100
Lt. Cmdr Keyboard @dunny0.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
That’s preparation, not reading a room. Reading the room is lived experience, adapting to changing circumstances.
