My biggest overreaction concern thus far is the Wolves bench size. Joan isn’t quite strong enough to anchor the paint against veteran centers and then the next best rebounder in that group might be Ayo? Feels like we may still a veteran big away from completing the roster.

Rick Carlisle is one of the best coaches in the NBA. His teams are always so sharp - very impressed with Indiana’s ball movement.

Just got caught up so some first half thoughts: 1. Our offense is going to be special this year. 2. Mixing and matching the right guys on the court going to be key - that 4/5 bench lineup got crushed. 3. I feel the exact same about a Kuminga 3 as I did about a Randle 3… only late in clock please.

LaMelo is to the offense what Rudy is to the defense.

Timberwolves got their first look at Joan Beringer in his new role as backup center in their preseason opener in Milwaukee Another intriguing performance from Beringer who had 12 points mostly off of lobs and putbacks, but did have a really nice drive to the rim in the 4th Q

Ant on LaMelo: "He was great tonight. Y'all know. He plays like his hair is on fire. He gets everybody involved. He talked more than I expected throughout the game. That's another big one for me, especially because I love people who talk. Let us know what you see."

Jaylen Clark has already made 4-5 hustle plays. Going to be hard to keep him out of the rotation.

Small but noticeable thing: Finchy calls a TO cause we were giving up a ton of offensive boards - the player that was in on every rebound attempt after that? Ayo. He’s going to be a guy whose role will change from game-to-game based on team need. Perfect 6th man for this team.

Offense is doing its thing with the 2nd unit, but they are giving up a lot of offensive rebounds. Definitely being pushed around a bit by a Milwaukee group that’s crashing the offensive glass aggressively.

Ayo-TJ-Beringer in for Ball, Kuminga and Rudy. Wonder if this is Jaden at the 4 minutes? Seems that way with TJ guarding on the perimeter.

First impressions: 1. Kuminga is a weapon in transition - that quick first dribble is going to draw a lot of fouls. Would guess that’s the best way for him to get offense! 2. Back-to-back 3s for LaMelo and Ant 🥵 3. Ant engaged on-ball on defense… question is going to be off ball for him and LaMelo

Yeah - that was my takeaway. I didn’t know the rule was written that exact way - so it at least makes more sense to me now why stronger players like Ant can take a lot more contact and have it not be called. The onus is on him to “show” the contact.

Dunks After Dusk @dunksafterdusk.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Their new specification for flopping is a theatrical secondary reaction… so players can fall, whip their heads back, throw their arms up on a light touch… just can’t do one of those and then throw their body to the ground or convulse on the floor. 95% of what SGA does is legal and “encouraged” IMO.

Dunks After Dusk @dunksafterdusk.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
What Jace talked about is that it would be better if there were some clearly defined parameters that aren’t based on reaction - angle of arm extension on a push off for example. The way the rule is written is set up for embellishment (what most of us would call flopping).

Dunks After Dusk @dunksafterdusk.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The contact is called based on the reaction, not the contact itself. In theory, you could drive a truck into Ant and if he doesn’t embellish/react, no foul. It creates an onus to embellish, and flopping only gets called if it’s extra theatrical. It’s a bad rule - but helpful to know the why.

A really helpful clarification from Jace Frederick (and good official discussion overall) on Dane’s most recent podcast. On what contact gets called a foul: “The offensive player’s speed, rhythm, quickness or balance must be hindered by the contact of the defender”.

Nia Brodie has been just what the Lynx have needed off the bench so far here in the first half. This is the type of play we all thought we'd get from her when she was signed by Minnesota this offseason — playing a big role off the bench in the playoffs.

Despite the Lynx shooting just 1-of-8 from three, they are down just three. If they can shoot like we've been used to seeing from them, this game could flip quick. On the other side, the Liberty have shot 0-of-6 from deep since starting a perfect 4-for-4.

Tough look when Miles gets hit in the face on a drive then the officials call a touch foul on the other end.

3-point shooting should cool down for the Liberty, but all 3 looks were pretty open. Can feel the Lynx just playing a little rushed - really need McBride to see one fall from deep to calm things down and open the floor a bit.

Working on a little season preview piece and was working on the Jaden McDaniels section. And I realized... he's on my all-time Timberwolves Mount Rushmore. The "they're all bad defenders" and following up with his on-court performance put him over the top. Top 4 player in franchise history.

Headline in the Athletic the other day: Culture wars plague WNBA discourse. Can next commissioner return focus to basketball? As someone who has always remained fixed on the game itself in my writing, it might seem odd that I object to this. But I think the framing and narrative is way off here. 1/2

Watching the Vikings is so much like playing a round of golf. I’m frustrated 90% of the time, but occasionally you just hit that shot that keeps bringing you back. That JJ touchdown brought me back from spending the 2nd half just watching Wolves highlights.
