Good morning, BlueSky - it's Dave Arneson Day! 79 years ago the co-creator and perhaps spiritual originator of modern role-playing games was born. His Blackmoor game was not only the spark that turned Gygax's Chainmail into something more, it was also an official D&D element. Happy Arneson Day!

The sequel is upon us! I adore this movie. It is perfect and cannot be improved upon except for with a time machine to make more Evil Dead movies. This will be a great evening of film once more!

Time for tonight's summerween horror film: 1989's INTRUDER, which features cameos by Sam and Ted Raimi and the incomparable Bruce Campbell, one of my all-time favorite dudes. This one I remember pretty well, I feel like I thought this was actually kinda underrated/underappreciated. We'll see!

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills because the whole of comics fandom seems obsessed with Absolute Batman (and hats off to the creators and fans, truly!) but it holds no real appeal to me? I've dabbled a bit but it hasn't grabbed me. Happy for its success, but feeling confused anyway 😅

I have a small square from an estate sale which is too thin to properly bite the edge of my drawing table. So I cut & glued some scrap fiberboard fairly flush to it. A little bit of fine tuning will keep it square. It has a bit of an inset hollow, so of course I had to fill it with a lil guy... 😊
An artist's square, clear plastic, with a wood reinforcement glued on the end. A close-up of the wood glued on the end of the clear plastic artist's square, showing the inset possum doodle.

In between the construction work I have found minutes here and there (as paint dries...) to finish up my project for cataloging my nibs! I made these cards, each with a reinforcement around the hole, and wrote with each of my nib types. Then I recorded my notes, their age (new/vtg), and shape.

All minimalist cartoon styles feel exceedingly corporate/govt at this point. It feels like I am being recorded while looking, and it will be used against me by HR/KGB. It's not really fair to artists who happen to have overlap with their natural style/vision but nonetheless I recoil & distrust it.

Tonight's film - summerween continues! This time it's a "classic" (for a generous definition of the word) C-grade horror flick I first saw in high school, sometime around it's 15th anniversary. Hopefully my lovely wife enjoys it, because I'm a fan (for a certain generous definition of that word). 😅

Just got back from an event at the wonderful second-hand craft shop my wife and I frequent. Had to make 8+ artist trading cards in three hours and share them with the others doing the same. We had fun and the folks were so nice! These are the ones I made. They're out there in the wild now! 😊
An assortment of five artist trading cards. One is the bride of Frankenstein sipping a drink. One is a jack o lantern with sunglasses. One is a coffin full of ice and drinks, like a cooler. One is a witch in a bikini with a drink in one hand and a broom in the other. One is a skull on the beach with an orange child shovel, wearing sunglassesAn assortment of five artist trading cards. One is a "Frankenweenie", a hotdog made of stitched up meat with bolts sticking out of it. One is an "ice scream truck", it is orange and has a skeletal worker with a pink paleta. One is a tombstone but instead of RIP it says 103 Fahrenheit. One is a possum vampire dressed like Dracula. One is a watermelon jack-o-lantern saying happy summer.

Forgot to photograph last night's movie, but it was Cheerleader Camp and it was bad. Scenes were disjointed, especially the main character doing stuff that made no sense. Most characters did, tbh. We figured out the twist right away but had to wait 90min for the movie to get there.

Tonight we are watching the 4th Jason flick. This subtitle is obviously fraudulent since I think they made 8 or 9 Jason movies after this one, but I suspect this will be the last Friday the 13th of our 2026 Summerween viewings. Maybe we'll get to 5-12 next year. Onto other titles after this!

Five shields on a white background. First is rectangular and tall, with a stretched orange hide and a painting of a dragon skull pierced by three spears. Second is an inverted tear drop shape with a masoned field of grey and a pink and pale blue wearing virginal femme figure central. Third is a shiny disc with reflective dome boss. Fourth is a large oval shape of a tusked and horned monstrous face. Fifth is an assortment of bones and jaws tied together with wire, and a surface of human skin stretched tight across it; a sigil of a nail through a skull is painted on it in orange-red pigment.

Stopped by Daiso today for a drawer organizer for my wife. Happened to find 6oz of sumi ink for $2, a watercolor brush, and a double-ended brush marker as well. Cant argue for $7 total! The ink is a shockingly good buy. The watercolor brush pen is okay, bristles are not great. The marker is lame.
6oz bottle of Daiso art grade sumi ink on a sketchbook page with a small stainless steel saucer of ink next to it. In the background, some notes and a Corsair mechanical keyboard with red illumination. A sketchbook page with the same 6oz bottle of Daiso sumi ink, a Daiso watercolor brush filled with an ink wash (2pts Noodler's black, 1pt water) and a Daiso brand dual-tip brush marker with Grey and Black tips. The page has test swatches and doodles from trying out the products. The ink wash is a warm grey and a note says it is pleasing. The two-ended brush marker test notes that they're very stiff. The sumi ink test was conducted with a Brause no. 515 nib on an improvised nib-holder and includes a sword doodle. The notes there say it is moderately dark, well behaved, okay smoothness - not as good as Yasutomo but sooooo cheap!

Woke up to this winner on my blog post where I talk about the difficulty of squaring my love of Robert E Howard with his hatred of my people (Italians and immigrants, of which I am both) Obviously deleted as per the terms of use on my policies page, and because it's absolutely moronic. Racist twat.
A comment by "Tyr" on my blog reading as follows: Who’s to say we aren’t flawed now? People have been systematically brainwashed for the last 70 years with self-appointed “experts” thinking for them, instead of allowing them to think for themselves. Every other race on earth is extremely racist, and it’s only considered inappropriate when it’s whites who have preference. Self hating whites are the worst of the worst. And they aren’t aware of the Barbary slave trade which was larger and lasted longer than the transatlantic slave trade. Thomas Jefferson basically went to war because of it . Ah, you never heard of that have you? Well don’t worry Google has sanitized it down this memory hole you aforementioned. That’s right blacks had whites as slaves I made a lot of money on it called “white gold”. So get wrecked selective bigot.A screenshot of the offender's partial email, reading "Anglosaxon" as part of the address

Lifelong idol of mine. In HS my teacher introduced me to his work & used the school's large-format printer to sneak me a poster-sized print of this MGS art. It stayed on my wall until a move years after HS. Probably up there about a decade by the end. Awesome to see he's still making amazing works.
