Kleenex staying on brand by printing my mantras before jacking off
Two boxes of Kleenex with the following printed on their side:
“Your body, your journey, steps taken, memories made, stop and breath”
“I had a a daydream of hope, and calm, now within my reach”

Anyway I’m now entering hour 26 of my long journey home from holiday, hence why I’m so cranky rn. Let’s end this thread with some nice photos of the cool animals I saw as a palate cleanser

Basically, the marketing ghouls behind Tilly Norwood are trying to force it into a model of celebrity that died 30 years ago, after being killed by the same tech that allowed Norwood to exist in the first place. In itself thats plenty evidence of their massive, massive incompetence and idiocy.
100
Jaaaaaaaaake @dumbasnothing.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
2. Movie stars as they exist today are basically influencers with a more lucrative day job, whose cultural cache is based on parasocial relationships. Obviously an AI can’t replicate that- Tilly Norwood might “act” in a film but it’ll never appear on Hot Ones.
100
Jaaaaaaaaake @dumbasnothing.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
So the obvious question Tilly Norwood begs is- if the technology (theoretically!!) exists to sculpt an avatar that perfectly matches your ideal vision for a character, why would you ever bother hiring an “actor” that has to look a particular way?
110
Jaaaaaaaaake @dumbasnothing.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
1. Movie stars simply don’t exist like they used to thanks to the dissolution of the monoculture and hollywoods subsequent pivot to leaning on IP. You used to sell a film based on the lead actor, now you sell a film based on the lead character. Folks care more about Spiderman than Tom Holland yknow?
100
Jaaaaaaaaake @dumbasnothing.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Also, not to harp on, but as an appendix- an AI movie star is something that will never ever ever happen, for two reasons:
100
Jaaaaaaaaake @dumbasnothing.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Look, it’s understandable that journalists haven’t exposed themselves to that toxic garbage- god knows I wouldn’t want to- but nonetheless it is objectively true, regardless of your views on AI and its “art”, that reporting on Norwood is 100% disconnected from reality.
100
Jaaaaaaaaake @dumbasnothing.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
This thing has two credits- an absolutely excruciating “skit” that’s crucially *about* Norwood without actually featuring it, and a horrible AI song accredited to it which is a) the most substantial appearance it’s made outside of its “interviews” and b) NOT AN ACTING JOB

Jaaaaaaaaake @dumbasnothing.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
It’s not an actor!! It’s not an actor!! Not even because it’s a computer program, but because it literally hasn’t appeared in anything!!

I made an effort this year to limit the amount of books I read by white guys to 50%, and in doing so discovered a much wider and wonderful array of stories than I would’ve otherwise. It was a deeply rewarding and worthwhile experience!

Twitter screenshot, 23 December 2016 (and god knows we needed a laugh at the end of that year): Gerry Adams, “This house is like Santa's Grotto. “It will also make clear that it will not be deemed as discrimination to exclude trans people from those facilities and that services will be allowed to request birth certificates to ensure single-sex services are protected.
The draft guidance also said that in certain circumstances a trans person could be excluded from a service even if it matched their biological sex.”

But it won’t be the end. I guarantee there are kids out there now who will grow up to be actors and writers and crew members and producers because of this show. I cannot wait to see what they do.

If this is the end, at least the show can boast that it left us with one of its all-time best seasons, with nearly half the episodes! And so many stories are up there with the best of NuWho.

Crucially Gatwa was central to that. While you can often see the influence of past doctors on the current actor (Smith/Troughton, Tennant/Baker etc) Gatwa stands alone. Never before has the doctor felt so libidinous, so loving, so warm. I loved him.

Creatively the juiced budget and RTD’s push to do new things has led to some of the most inventive and daring moves Doctor Who has ever made, while still being oodles of fun. I would’ve gladly watched five more seasons.

FINAL THOUGHTS. This is definitely one of my favourite eras of Doctor Who. It’s never felt more like a show that can do anything, can take you anywhere. Every single episode delighted me somehow, even if I didn’t love all of it.
The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) in a royal blue pinstripe suit and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) in a black and white jacket and knee high white boots. They’re each holding an umbrella, his yellow, hers red, and they’re dancing on Abbey Road, the sun setting behind them in golden light.

Mr Ring-a-Ding, a smiling blue cartoon man, pulls himself out of a cinema screen. He’s huge with unfocused eyes and sinister intent. The cinema has art deco panelling, dim lighting and a sparse audience.

And silly as it is, the idea of it becoming a burden, or being abandoned does make me a bit sad! Plus starting and ending with Gatwa feels right. But before I’m done! Rankings and some final thoughts.

This project has been a really fulfilling ritual for me. I know it’s mostly gushing first impressions, and no one cared except me, but it’s led me to a more critical engagement with this show I’ve loved & given me space to be a big nerd- even the alt text has improved my descriptive writing!

THE REALITY WAR. I really, really hope this isn’t the end.
The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) stands in the entrance of his TARDIS, which floats in the vacuum of space. His arms are stretched wide, and golden regeneration energy blooms from him like petals from a flower, or flames from an explosion. Overjoyed, he is smiling the biggest, brightest smile.

THE REALITY WAR. It’s kind of a perfect image to end the show, should that be its fate. The tension between the absurd and the mundane is the driving engine of DW, and in its closing moments we’re presented with a perfect synthesis.

THE REALITY WAR. The next Doctor should always feel like a scary choice, whether you cast an unknown actor, an older fella, a woman, whatever. This is certainly that. But Piper is such an incredible actor I’m already excited to see what happens next.

THE REALITY WAR. Bold of them to simply not tell anyone about the ending. It’s gotta be the first time anyone’s watched a regeneration not knowing who’s next since childhood, which was tremendously exciting.

THE REALITY WAR. Theres so much inside baseball stuff on proud display, like the seal of omega or project indigo. Without the classic series’ freedom to ignore its history the continuity has mounted up, alienating the not-we to an alarming extent.

THE REALITY WAR. Every single member of this cast has proven themselves admirably. Though I think there was more to be done with Belinda, Varuda Sethu crushed it, as did Gibson, Punjabi, Dobson, Redgrave, Langford, Madeley, Hauer-King, de Whalley, Whittaker, even the wee babbies!

THE REALITY WAR. Gutted that this is all we’ll get of Ncuti Gatwa. Simply put- he had far more to give. His Doctor was distinct and layered and deeply fun to watch and there’s so much we’ll never see- no Dalek story, no resolution to Rogue. It’s too soon.

THE REALITY WAR. Doctor Who is desperately eating its own tail, clawing at shards & detritus of its history, cannibalising itself. This show is a fractal, closed system- a hall of mirrors. It’s trapped, those final moments especially locking it in stasis.
