Interesting. Also makes me think of The King of the Copper Mountains by Paul Biegel, a magical book I read as a child which I may now need to dig out and re-read.

For many years now I have been trying to convince people that I "straddle the line 'twixt discord and rhyme" like Duran Duran in Hungry Like the Wolf, but no one believes those are the real lyrics.

David Lynch and Jocelyn Montgomery collaborated on a haunting album of Hildegard’s music. It does not aim for historical authenticity but does, I think, achieve emotional authenticity, which is more difficult and admirable. faroutmagazine.co.uk/lux-vivens-d...

David Lynch's esoteric ode to a 12th-century nun
David Lynch was an avid musician, and he once produced an album based on Hildegard von Bingen's 12th-century compositions with Jocelyn Montgomery.

Apparently I can't visit a medieval place without taking copious notes and imagining various musical performance possibilities, and I'm not the only one! Thank you Ellen & Tom (Dead Space Chamber Music) for an inspiring medieval weekend in Bristol. Scene of a future project? Perhaps! Wait and see.
Interior of Temple Church, Bristol, which is ruinous and open to the sky but retains its late medieval features. Kate leans on the remains of a stone column to take notes on her surroundings while some pigeons mind their own business.Kate standing near the altar of the ruined Temple Church, Bristol, taking a photo in the direction of the nave. Please share around, as I really want to know! Re: the overuse and devaluation of the word "iconic". Linguistic hyperinflation? #linguists #linguistics

Kate Arnold @dulcimerkate.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Why does it bother me? Perhaps because its inappropriate use in so many cases dilutes its meaning, devaluing it in cases where it is appropriate. Soon it'll be so overused it'll have no meaning at all & then fall out of use entirely, worn out & exhausted. It's a kind of linguistic over-consumption.

Kate Arnold @dulcimerkate.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Have we hit peak "iconic" yet? I know it's beyond my control and it's just what happens with language, especially these days, but the inane overuse/misuse of that word is starting to drive me mad. "You keep using that word... I don't think it means what you think it means..."
