I said it was a good marketing tactic and sure enough, when I passed by about 10 minutes later, there was a family looking at it on the ground and the kid petting the coyote calling it a doggy

The best part, of course, was the Elvira standee below it

Original roughs for @magicwhistle.bsky.social's brilliant thought metaphor run. The capper on this hits like the first time EVERY time.
Three rough storyboard panels in graphite on yellow post-it.

PANEL 1: A Manager SpongeBob in a visor shouts at a harried Worker SpongeBob going through a file cabinet.
MANAGER: Hurry up! What do you think I'm PAYING you for?!
WORKER: You don't pay me! We don't even exist!

PANEL 2: Managerlooks shocked while Worker explains:
WORKER: We're just a clever visual metaphor used to personify the abstract concept of thought!

PANEL 3: Miffed Manager thumbs over his shoulder while Worker screams back, distressed.
MANAGER: One more crack like that and you're outta here!
WORKER: No! Please! I have three kids!

The first Peanuts strip by Charles M. Schulz was published on October 2, 1950.
Four black and white panels of a boy and girl sitting on steps.
1st panel: Charlie Brown is approaching and the boy says:
"Well! Here comes ol' Charlie Brown!"
2nd panel: As Charlie Brown passes, he says "Good ol' Charlie Brown...yes, sir!"
3rd panel: "Good ol' Charlie Brown..."
4th panel: Once Charlie is gone, "How I hate him!"

There's a common sentiment of "I wonder how [celebrity] would react to seeing [caricature]"... but I really do wonder how Andy Devine felt about this lol

I've always had a ferocious love of this song number (if you can even call it that) because of its anti-humor (if you can even call it *that*), but I love it 10,000x more ever since learning the pig is voiced by Tex Avery. Bob McKimson's acting on the horse gets me each time

Watching a Laurel and Hardy short where Stan is instructed to serve salad undressed (with no dressing) and takes it literally Amelia Bedelia style. That in itself is hilarious, but the shots of him just grabbing fistfuls of lettuce and tossing it on people's plates with that expression is SO GOOD

Also love this Swedish poster for Way Out West... and the fact that these all have obligatory sultry (comparatively) women on them. Very charming very funny
A Swedish poster for the Laurel and Hardy film Way Out West. Stan and Ollie ride a bucking bronco, while a lady in a much more realized style dances beneath them

Omg that’s so cool you’re an artist though, what a flex!! I feel like I have the opposite issue in that I can see things so so vividly and specifically and then I’m never actually able to match it on paper, which I’m sure is just the Artist’s Curse in general but is extra frustrating for me lol

An oldie from 2022 to promote The Big Bad Bubble Bass, which is still one of my favorite episodes I've worked on :)
A vintage style illustration of SpongeBob and Patrick dressed as 2 of the three little pigs. They dance while holding an action figure of a pig. In the background, Squidward, dressed as the third pig and building his moai head of bricks, looks on disapprovingly.

This right here is why Frank Tashlin is such a huge cinematographic inspiration to me--what inventive staging!! This takes a deceptive amount of planning, especially this era where WB's camera department was much cruder back then (though it mostly comes down to planning/staging/layout). Gorgeous

Some work doodles and drawings for coworkers! A 50% ratio of Fry-day puns
A simple black and white drawing of the Star family from The Patrick Star Show stacked on top of each other, with Squidina holding a banner that reads “Friday”.A simple black and white drawing of Patrick Star eating a suspiciously SpongeBob-shaped box of fries, while the real SpongeBob observes in polite terror.A simple black and white drawing of Patrick Star eating a wedding cake, with a speech bubble saying “Comfwabuhwafuh!”, which is Star-speak for “Congratulations!”A simple drawing of SpongeBob holding Gary up like the skull from Hamlet, period accurate clothes and all.

Been doing a chronological LT rewatch since I can't have enough cartoons in me at all times, and this is my first 5/5 out of 170 cartoons. Maybe it's unearned, but it's just so inspiring to me with its madcap sadistic and *FUN* comedy. Makes me wanna cartoon more gooder

Beyond the hilarious character acting (I love how gregarious and proper the dog's movements are, and Porky's pupils moving up in contemplation adds a whole new layer of haplessness) I LOVE that bit of Porky pulling out the interminable strand of dynamite, it's so tactile. I feel it in my chest!!

My all-time favorite piece(s) of Chuck Jones' animation, whose talents as an *animator* are really undersung. There's soooo much I could gush over with the technique in both actual movement and character acting, but, most importantly, it's funny!!!

My take on beep beep vs meep meep discourse is that it's actually *h*meep *h*meep, because it was Paul Julian's preferred spelling, who voiced the Road Runner. CHECKMATE
Another immortal Warner “voice” didn’t even belong to a performer. Background painter Paul Julian supplied the familiar “mheeep-mheeep” noise of the Road Runner. As Jones recounted, “Julian did the original ‘beep-beeps’ which are still used today. As he walked down the Warner Bros. hall carrying a load of backgrounds he couldn’t see where he was going so he beep-beeped to get people out of the way. At that time Mike Maltese and I were completing the first Road Runner [story]. Upon hearing Julian’s beep-beep we bowed deeply to the east and said, ‘Ok God, we’ll take it from here,’ because it was so obviously the voice of a Road Runner.” 199
67. Julian, 1976 interview. Jones, 8 June 1979. Despite the repeated use of “beep” in the titles of Road-Runner cartoons, the proper spelling of the noise Julian made was, according to its author, “hmeep-hmeep.” Julian to author, 9 January 1990.
