And most interestingly, nearly every single species of slime in the town have animations in their files that suggest that there was supposed to be A LOT more possible crew members (potentially every person in town). Notable inclusions are Hooly's parents, a cut enemy (the mummy), and Obaba.

There's also a bunch of unused animations and more cut NPCs. Obaba (old lady slime) from the GBA game is in the files, bunch of items like balloons and rocks. Platypunks have a cut drilling animation, Clawleone has leftover idle animations from the GBA game.

The bird sprite is a completely unused enemy/boss (appears to be Raima?), The cyclops is from the GBA game and appears to almost be entirely a leftover, same palette and graphics. Even the cut mummy enemy has new sprites indicating it was going to be tank crew member.

For example, Rocket has animations for blowing the warrior flute, which requires an extra palette for the flute. This palette isn't inside sl_data.bin, so has to be hardcoded. More investigation pending on the actual loading logic for Rocket Slime. 3/3

Hard part is loading all required palettes. Usually there's palettes stored at the end of the file, but these are not always all of the palettes needed. Palette info is stored as indices to palette memory, usually you can remap these to the internal palette table in the file but not always. 2/3

Rocket Slime stores graphics + data in banks like: Graphics Frames Animations Graphics just contain the actual graphics, standard 4bpp tiled NDS graphics. Frames contain OAM attributes which are used to build sprites made of multiple OAM objects Animation contains anim data (timings, etc) 1/3

Inspired a while ago by @gaucheartist.bsky.social's Rocket Slime/Slime Mori Mori rips to try and make an automatic exporter for the graphics and animations and recently finished it. Here's some sprite sheets. (more info in replies)

Thanksf or the reply! I just re-found my notes on the game and remembered that I actually found the frame timer in memory (for the DS game it's at 02143B5B) with a bunch of other cool stuff around it (current frame index, current animation index, player position, etc)

@gaucheartist.bsky.social Hi, if I recall correctly you ran Pixel Digest on tumblr and I was wondering how you got the timings for the rocket slime animations for this post? pixeldigest.tumblr.com/post/7898896.... Did you figure it from values in memory or just tweak until it looked right?

Hm. I've been trying for a while but still am unable to get a similar result. Here's my closest attempt in Blender and the node setup. It's close but not perfect (random white pixels, line has gap in middle, etc). I had to treat it as a normal map to get the horizontal part which im not sure about.

Can you explain more on how you used the voronoi texture shown in the post to create the horizontal white lines on the water's surface? I can't figure it out.

It's hard to work on this model mostly due to burn out, but also the fact that geonode hair (which I use for fur) just doesn't work if you plan on rigging and animating the model so I'm just sort of twiddling my thumbs until the devs fix it. Mostly been posting updates since the last one on discord.

Recently found some BTS footage/images of Lylla which made me r̶e̶l̶a̶p̶s̶e̶ start working on the model again. Proportions changed and a total fur overhaul. Eyes blacked out due to empty sockets that people kept saying were disturbing whenever I posted her on discord #gotg3 #3dmodelling #gotg #3d #blender
A 3D render of a fan-remake of the anthropomorphic otter "Lylla" from Guardians of the galaxy 3. It showcases the changes the artist has recently made to the proportions and overhaul of her fur groom. Her eyes are censored by black markings due to the fact the model hasn't got eyes yet and people kept saying the empty eye sockets were disturbing

Various changes: * New art-style and camera controls * Controller support * Made character controller feel snappier (quicker animations) * Reimplemented grass and terrain in the new render pipleine (Toon-RP) #GameDev #IndieDev #MadeWithUnity #UnityDev #IndieGame

Wish Blender would fucking fix geonode hair already, but looks like it's going to be 4.4/4.5 before anything changes. I want to finish my Lylla model

Been working on this character (who is totally not based off Lylla from GOTG3). Majority of retopology and modelling done in Maya while fur and rendering (and eventually rigging) in Blender. Would love some feedback! #digitalart #gotg #blender #3dart #3dmodelling
A 3d model of an antropomorphic otter. It has realistic two tone fur, with pale fur around the cheeks, mouth and chin, with the rest being brown. It's in a simple scene with a black background and a 3 point lighting setup that's emitting a warm, orange light from the rear and cold blue light from the right.
