you know something serious is being cooked if you _need to_ remind yourself what a monotonic function is ;)

Experience suggests, that it'd be better to accept two parallel models (and all consequences of both existing) rather than putting enormous effort into killing the old one. Accept in a way that: adapt; try to minimize the negative consequences. Easier said than done, tho 😅

Stop Pretending To Do Domain-Driven Design
It doesn't matter how many entities, aggregates, factories, services, and repositories you have. That's not domain-driven design.

You're touching a real painpoint Tomasz, very true. We'll see whether Language Models well be able to "reason" for real. The quote however goes way beyond that. Look at all these "founder mode" people who see value in code, being quite detached from the world surrounding them...

Yeah, but all in all the final "judgement" is based on an implicit assumption that there's no other complexity. Which makes such judgement "rubbish" 😛
010
Tomasz Ducin @ducin.dev · 13/03/2025
From my observation (nearly all such situations) the person claiming such statement is unaware of what the complexity even is on the other side of the stack. Classical unconscious incompetence.

Why frontend devs saying that frontend is more complex than backend is total rubbish (and vice versa as well) 👇

I just love videos from Derek Comartin a.k.a. www.youtube.com/@CodeOpinion - 10 minute-ish - pure architecture meat - very concise, no storytelling etc. - trade-offs deep analysis very good value-for-time ratio. if you don't know it - example (materialized views): www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQVi...

Yeah, BDD-style tests seem to be a great source of context too. From my experience - when creating web services, the critical piece is the contract that LLM should strictly stick to. Yep, depends what you're working on.

Tomasz Ducin @ducin.dev · 09/03/2025
Yeah, just read the post by @hvr.endj.in - that's exactly it, fully agreed. Properly debunking copilot instructions is a skill, worthwhile improving. BTW in my experience you don't save that much effort with inline suggestions.

And oh, BTW, it has 0 runtime overhead.
000
Tomasz Ducin @ducin.dev · 04/03/2025
Yep. A "special" subtype of a primitive. It's kind of a compile-time cheating (the brand doesn't exist in runtime). But works. That could be validation based, domain specific, whatever. Even a special GUID subtype.
100
Tomasz Ducin @ducin.dev · 04/03/2025
Yeah, agreed. My point is - it doesn't really matter if it's a primitive or an object - you can wrap it with either a brand type (for primitives) or a VO (objects) and the "shotgun validation" issue is gone. However, WHERE/WHEN do we apply validation matters a lot 👍
100
Tomasz Ducin @ducin.dev · 04/03/2025
BTW in c# you've got nominal typing. Not sure why wouldn't e.g. a new value object class solve the same problem. Boilerplate? A little. Otherwise "parse, don't validate" seems invasive and not really a solution. Choose your poison 😅 However it's not 0/1 "shotgun validation" or "don't validate"
100
Tomasz Ducin @ducin.dev · 04/03/2025
Interesting read. You might be interested in taking a look at __brand/opaque types in TypeScript__. They solve the "shotgun validation" problem entirely (combination of runtime validation + compile-time guarantee).

We're gonna drown in rubbish in the post-LLM world. And it's not necessarily LLMs' fault. It's because people are already too lazy and/or unable to do research on their own.

Sounds very reasonable. Is the switch to "big frameworks" due to their: - stability (no revolutions) - opinionated which plays kind of "against" js landscape?
