Retrieved this from the cabinets for an enquirer the other day and couldn’t resist sharing. An absolutely fabulous three-quarter facing bust of the usurper Postumus on this aureus, struck at his mint of Trier, Germany, c. AD 264.

Another one for #WorldTurtleDay! 🐢🐢🐢 A stater (silver coin) from the island of Aegina, 4th century BC. 📷 Lena Nitzer | Staatliche Münzsammlung München | license see alt text
Close-up of silver stater from Aigina, with a depiction of a land turtle, seen from above. The shell and scaly legs are very detailed.

📣 It is always a bit conceited to advertise a paper publication, but this project was great fun thanks to the fabulous team involved. If you are interested in miniature pottery, please take a look. doi.org/10.1177/1469... #Archaeology 🏺

These little cupids are working hard to finish their garlands! Eight of them are already hanging from the top, between them erhaps four oscilla(?). This tiny object, which is only 3 cm wide, is made from glas paste and stems from the famous collection of Paul Arndt. #ClassicsBluesky #AncientBlueSky🏺

A unique #coin (www.bavarikon.de/object/bav:S...)! Achaeus was the cousin of Seleucus III and Antiochus III. In 220 he declared himself king and made Sardes the capital of his kingdom. The #gold stater shown below is perhaps to be interpreted as an inauguration issue. #numismatics #AncientBluesky🏺

Dear coin-people, I am currently working on a hoard containing a coin of Acanthus/Akanthos. There is apparently a 1996 Oxford dissertation by Tselekas and I wonder if anyone has a copy of it? As far as I can see the book is not available for ILL in Germany 🏺ClassicsBluesky AncientBluesky 🏛️
