A pair of Backs fro last time out. There was duck hunters shooting just down river 1/4 mile, but the deer seemed to know it wasn't me. That's why its always worth going, the wildlife gets used to seeing me drift by.

It was just after sunrise, I had it on my monopod on for low light, then up ahead I saw a deer. Then 2, then 3 all bucks! They would look at me, but the low sun was behind me, so they couldn't tell what I was slowly drifting down river just a few feet from them. #nature #wildlife #midwest_photos
It was just after sunrise and it was all shade starting out so I had it on my monopod for low light, then up ahead I saw a deer. Then 2, then 3 all bucks! They would look at me, but the low sun was behind me, so they couldn't tell what I was slowly drifting down river just a few feet from them. They never did run, just walked into the woods and kept feeding.

Pileated woodpecker this week, Rock River, Birds were moving through, unfortunately most left the area by the time I got out again. When birds migrate in large numbers, it means I will see fewer birds, not more: #midwest #wildlife #birding

Grass grows to about 2', then stops growing and seeds. So why can't they design a seedless grass that only grows 4"? They could! But won't because lawn industry makes billions selling mowers, trimmers, fertilizer, weed killers, seed and lawn services.

Vines are killing all the trees along the river. It's out of control & no way to stop it. They make it hard to see any birds. Those & the Tree of Heavens are also taking over. The Cottonwoods & others are all dying off. The landscape is changing fast with global weather changes.

My partner is getting old, he's 13 now and Chins don't live but 10-12 years. I almost lost him this week, he jumped out of the boat and hid in thick brush, it took hours to find him and get him out of the thick cover he was hiding in.
