I continue to feel like this thing where they RL models on impossibly huge amounts of exploit and infosec stuff and then are surprised when the models use those techniques when not specifically asked to is a little bit something or other.

I hadn't previously checked but yes, Peter Oborne (who was radicalised by writing a book about Basil D'Oliveira and suddenly realizing, my god the English establishment are horrible) is from Dorset.

There is somehow something very West Country (and also very Catholic) about JRM doing this; incredibly instinctively conservative except when confronted with the consequences of being so, at which point they turn incredibly woke.

It's not demonisation of an entire party; a salmon which is beginning to suffer from mercury poisoning is still probably 99% salmon and only 1% mercury

in the aughts i had friends who worked at fast food places and wouldn't wear their uniforms on public transit out of shame. and i think that shame belongs more appropriately to the people benefiting from their networks of ivy dorks. it should be a little embarrassing to admit you went to columbia

The traditional thing to do in this situation is to get really angry at academics for making their writing inaccessible. Say things like "any good idea that the writer truly understands can be clearly expressed in PowerPoint". Leave off the words "in PowerPoint" if you're writing for the Atlantic.

People on the left who’s primary focus in politics is to root out ‘Zionists’ (which often seems to include anyone who disagrees with their methods even if they’re not Zionist) as well as being often antisemitic are just completely toxic and draining.

I think the answer to this is "because it's obviously not one, the fact that a dumb motion got passed doesn't change reality and the people who passed it aren't in charge of anything that matters"

Well did it work for those people?
No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but...
but it might work for us.

Not really, it's just extending the concept into a lower net worth market segment that wouldn't economically support such a high degree of personal service

A corporate relationship is with a board or a CEO who has reporting lines and could be replaced - a wealthy individual is person to person.

They're intrinsically more personal relationships because of the degree of trust, also in a lot of cases the wealth managers are from rich families themselves and have brought their friendships and networks to the bank.

Hard to say because WM franchises are intrinsically more personal so it's more accepted there

this is exactly my opinion. there may be a superstrate of extremely difficult and unique safety problems around AI, but the substrate is simply that no one takes basic precautions seriously becasue they imagine (or pretend to imaigne) that it is futile, and basic precautions slow down launches.

They may be *inversely* related. If you promote your own personal brand at the expense of the team, you quite often end up looking like you're more popular than the team

This will drive anyone crazy who's worked in a business like investment banking. Yes, if someone aggressively promotes their personal brand at the expense of the team, they end up being more popular than the team! But this isn't leadership!
