Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 11/03/2026@sandra.idiomdrottning.org.ap.brid.gy - Old Timey Mono/Code creator here. Happy to hear you like it! 100
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 27/01/2026Thanks so much. A bit tickled pink. :-) v0.11.0 coming out soon-ish with lots of improvements. 110
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 07/05/2025OLD TIMEY MONO and OLD TIMEY CODE 0.9.1 are now available. 0.9.1 fixes some hinting issues and the uppercase 'G'. I also fixed some broken links you may have encountered on the websites. If images are not displaying in Github, it's an issue with Github—they've displayed before just fine. 020

Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 05/04/2025Ok so not related to merging PRs but in this article of yours: stack-auth.com/blog/on-java... I see an error: all the decimal codepoints are prefixed with "0x". 000
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 17/02/2025This hateful gasbag bitch played a huge role in getting us where we are. I’m not sure whether I would have preferred he died sooner or suffered longer. Keep rotting in hell you sad sack of shit. 000

Ukraine destroyed 5% of Russia's oil production with FOUR drones in ONE attack on ONE refinery (Russia's 4th largest) and that makes me happy. Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 10/02/2025I better see "prosecuting every single last one of those reptile crooks" energy next time. The far right is an invasive species. Think, emerald ash borer, spotted lanterfly, or police officer. 010
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 10/02/2025...if you remember this book it's that font they used for the code examples and things. While what's shown here doesn't have slashed zeroes or anything, I'm producing coding and "regular" variants. You might like it. (Or not.) 010
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 10/02/2025Reproducing Typewriter mostly fixed this by shortening the serifs and opening up some of those apertures (but not all of them). In my opinion a few small modifications could make this a decent coding font. As a matter of fact... 121
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 10/02/2025Most of those faces had long, close-together serifs and narrower apertures, as on real typewriters; this could cause readability issues at lower point sizes or where reproduction machines could distort the text enough to "bleed" the serifs together or close the apertures. 100
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 10/02/2025So, back in the early 1900s, if you had a Linotype or Monotype machine, you could get typewriter style typefaces if you wanted to simulate typewritten letters, like for adverts and such. There were fonts based on Underwood, Remington, Smith-Premier, and a few other ones. From a 1923 ATF catalog: 100
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 10/02/2025I swear, I'll release this one day. #reproducingTypewriter #coding #monospace #programming 120
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 29/01/2025Just noticed this about Inter Italic... didn't expect that lowercase "e" for this typeface. So cool! :-D 010
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 16/01/2025Welcome to the future We’ve got plastic bags We’ve got everything you want Honey, clothes, and dish rags… 030
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 16/01/2025Meijer stopped using plastic bags. Welcome to the future I guess. I’m not a big fan of bags without handles but I’ll get used to taking reusable bags with me. Less plastic is good because I don’t want an even more unlivable hellscape than we’re already going to have. 010
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 16/01/2025Of course I heard some people on break outside of Meijer talking about a lady that tried to give herself an abortion. :-( #thanksTrumpers 010
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 15/01/2025And almost no one who needed to hear the truth heard it anyway. How it coincides too closely with Trump’s victory and inauguration is troubling—you know something’s up. (Also applies to various companies stopping their DEI initiatives) 010

Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 13/01/2025I did a rare thing: wrote a script I didn’t have to write in Python in Python. Like, something I’d normally use Perl for because I’m 3,293 years old and still use Perl. Here’s a meme I stole from the internet for engagement. But apparently Lua starts at zero now? 210

Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Turns out if you make fewer malloc calls at a higher level (arrays of strings) instead of millions of malloc calls deeper inside the loop, your program becomes way faster. Also function pointers are cool because to change the state of the finite state automata, you simply change the function. 000
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Repeated fread() calls into a huge buffer instead of repeated fgetc() calls helps. I have NO desire to roll my own memory management instead of using malloc(). Yes this is good old ANSI C (maybe some C99 stuff). 110
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Removing leading and trailing whitespace from each line doesn't help; neither does removing the few attributes I don't need. 100
Darren Embry @dsembry.bsky.social · 05/01/2025I'm kinda obsessed with finding the fastest way to trawl through a 650+ MB OpenStreetMap XML file. Of course I wrote a program in C that makes 6,580 assumptions about the XML format and implements a finite state automata. 100
