If both parties agree as an exception. The regular dispute mechanism differs

And no one wants the UK in the EFTA, least of all the UK! Hence "Norway solution" is a Chimera

So the Andorra and San Marino agreements qualify as recent now? These are very special onesxwith Microstates, also using the Euro. Which AA has the CJEU as arbiter? I am only familiar with the Western Balkans' and post-2014 ones with Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova. They don't. Which ones did you read?

Dagmar Schiek @dschiek.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Thats not quite correct. Those agreements typically have an FTA type resolution mechanism, though the CJEU prevented independent investment tribunals, as initially in the CETA (with Canada)

Dagmar Schiek @dschiek.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
The CJEU isnt the arbiter - neither inder the vurrent EU UK TCA, nor under the EEA agreement for the EFTA (non EU) states

Dagmar Schiek @dschiek.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Sorry that should have been "economic and social integration". And you were right that the current non-EU members of the EEA might not like it.

Dagmar Schiek @dschiek.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The EEA Agreement is made for multiple countries - 9 at its high point - and constitutes the ideal alignment for economic and dovisl integration without political integration.

Why would it be preferable for the EU to navigate yet another bespoke arrangement? I can see that thats what the UK prefers
210
Dagmar Schiek @dschiek.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
My answer refers to the option to join the EEA. In theory there is the option of a bespoke agreement. The UK missed that opportunity when rejecting less disruptive versions of the EU UK FTA, and the EU is unlikely to reopen that chapter... (though they bent over backward for the UK in the past)

Which the Norwegians, Icelanders and Liechtensteiners would have to agree to. Unlikely after the UK's performance in caregories such as reliability and honesty over the last 10 years

Quoting you "No one agrees to sell below market value unless worthwhile.". That is the transactionalism with which the UK infected the EC. You ppinted out quite correctly that the disease has not been cured yet.

Some countries have values that are not transactional. However, they should avoid being taken for a ride by those who dont. The EEC/EC/EU always hooed Britain would mature beyond the transactional. Maybe this was the right approach... but reading posts like yours make me wonder.

Dagmar Schiek @dschiek.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
Yeah the EU has always been bizarre in accepting theUKs purely transactional approach to European integration. Ever since Thatcher demanded "her money back"

You are soooo right. The poor Brits actually have to pay 90 Euro for a 2 year Schengen visa. 15 is for ypurist visa. home-affairs.ec.europa.eu/news/schenge... just compare this to what EU citizens pay for entering the UK (only one country versus 25.. not all EU countries are in Schengen)
home-affairs.ec.europa.eu
Schengen Visa Fee increased as of 11 June 2024

The latter. And visa for Brits have a nominal price (15 Euro)
100
Dagmar Schiek @dschiek.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
Hence the UK now pays 70 % of what would be due per student /staff if it would pay a fair price.

Dagmar Schiek @dschiek.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
You need to distinguish the budget calculations for member states, and the contribution of non member states to specific programmes. In the case of Erasmus, the latter are calculated by assessed number of student and staff beneficiaries using a factor taking in the economic strength of each country.
