"who would you vote for if it were today" is a very different question than "how popular is this person" @today.yougov.com puts her tied in 3rd place for most popular Democrats nationwide, and she has much fewer who dislike her than Kamala Harris (who she's tied with otherwise)

Trying something a little different for the 2027 tree distribution: these are all rooted cuttings of either named varieties or selections in this project. The total number of surviving cuttings are similar to the number of seeds typically started each fall for this project
Photo of eight medium to large flower pots in a row along a gravel floor at the base of a greenhouse wall. Each pot has between 8 and 20 avocado cuttings in it. There are blue labels on most of the pots, which read from left to right: LSG, Teague, Prince, Duke, #169, Linh, and Puebla.

"Poncho" (also sometimes spelled "Pancho") has also been very hardy so far, but failed to set fruit in its small first flowering last year. It has fewer flower buds than Del Rio and has grown less vigorously overall. This is the only open flower so far, though

"Del Rio" may be the most exciting, as its seedlings have been among the most impressive in our project so far. The leaves were slightly damaged by the winter low of 24.7°F, but the flower buds mostly made it through OK

Quite the bio
According to Tatler, Lewis is the daughter of a billionaire and grew up in Cheshire before moving to London.

Her website says she offers consulting and spiritual services, while on her Instagram, she identifies as a “Doyenne of Inner Calm. Founder. Investor.”

A bio on her website reveals she grew up in the British countryside, moved to New York in her twenties, developed an interest in humanitarian topics, deepened her spirituality through an encounter with Sufism, and is now developing something call the ‘Soul Advice Fund’.

She also launched a publishing company, ‘Chocolate Sauce’, in 2003, which published children’s books of ‘wisdom and kindness’.

On her website, she says her interests include “working in the Holy Land” and helping “bridge the cultural divide and support the positive healing of orphaned children.”

Her LinkedIn now identifies her as the CEO and founder of a company in Abu Dhabi that is “harnessing the power of technology to inspire tranquility.”

Photo of three 3D printed whistles lined up on a table. The top one reads "CHINGA LA MIGRA," and the bottom two whistles read "ABOLISH ICE," and each whistle is in alternating blue and green stripes of different thicknesses. These are the colors of the Seahawks, but also the Doug flag so it reflects broader bioregional pride and solidarity.

I think this shows both pretty well
No Cowardice

I want both the Hindus and Mussalmans to cultivate the cool courage to die without killing. But if one has not that courage, I want him to cultivate the art of killing and being killed rather than, in a cowardly manner, flee from danger. For the latter, in spite of his flight, does commit mental himsa. He flees because he has not the courage to be killed in the act of killing. (YI, 20-10-1921, p335)

My method of nonviolence can never lead to loss of strength, but it alone will make it possible, if the nation wills it, to offer disciplined and concerted violence in time of danger. (YI, 29-5-1924, p176)

My creed of nonviolence is an extremely active force. It has no room for cowardice or even weakness. There is hope for a violent man to be some day non-violent, but there is none for a coward. I have, therefore, said more than once....that, if we do not know how to defend ourselves, our women and our places of worship by the force of suffering, i.e., nonviolence, we must, if we are men, be at least able to defend all these by fighting. (YI, 16-6-1927, p196)

Your paper describes it correctly so I assume it was just when you summarized it for your post here you misspoke. Here's from your paper:
This alternating rhythm of sexual function at the level of individuals results from temporal offsets in a 2-day biphasic rhythm of individual flowers. Each individual flower is cosexual, opening first in the female phase, closing overnight, and opening the next day in the male phase. In A-type plants, the first anthesis occurs earlier on the first day, and the second anthesis occurs later on the second day, as compared to B-types (Fig. 1A). A large avocado tree may possess in excess of a million flowers, and the opening of flowers is staggered over successive days throughout the flowering season. This leads to a regular daily rhythm of alternating sexes in reversed directions between A- and B-types.

This is the tree that has been outside in the ground for the longest of any tree in the project: since January 2021. If the winter is mild enough to avoid damage to the branch tips, it's possible this could flower for the first time next year.

An avocado seed, a slug, and a clump of mushrooms walk into a greenhouse
A close up photo of an avocado seed planted in e small circular pot. The seed has had the top cut off previously, but has not yet begun to sprout.

On one side of the seed there's a gray slug just hanging around, and on the other side there's a clump of tiny mushrooms that look like paper parasols.

On the edge of the pot is a metal label with the number 680 written on it in red ink.
