Like never mind "deepfakes" these are the shallowest fakes around and they look just like the real thing
A post on "X" by Pope Leo XIV, reading "It is easy to edit any web page you have open using developer tools. Also, the Holy Trinity is an intellectually incoherent idea. We have been screwing with you about this for millenia and the only reason why is we got carried away in the year 400 over some dumb debate with a gnostic about the nature of the "substance of Christ"

What I do believe is if presented with a proof that a far-future AI superintelligence is attempting to torture everyone in history who does not worship it, Geordi LaForge would not respond by worshipping it. Instead he would simply handle it. He would take care of the problem like Ray from Achewood.
Ray from Achewood saying "I took care of that."

Yeah so here's the constitution Mandela helped create and personally signed www.justice.gov.za/constitution... Bans discrimination on "gender" and "sex" as different categories which isn't how I'd have formulated it but seems to make it quite clear transgender people are meant to be covered ???

or more grounds, including race, gender, sex, pregnancy, marital status, ethnic or

We are like, 15 or 18 years into a movement in software UI design that was originally called "flat design" and is now so normalized it has no name at all. You now have to invent and use a special adjective to describe a design that is *not* flat. I still hate "flat design".

It's important to remember that if a human *voluntarily attaches* a statistical text generation AI, to a command prompt that can create biomolecules or launch nukes, and a disaster happens, it wasn't because of "intelligence" or malice. It was because statistical models are *fundamentally random*.
"Like other biotech companies, Anthropic is embracing physical automation, said the two people, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The startup wants to push how its Claude AI can direct robotic units to carry out science experiments with limited human intervention, one of the people said."

mcc @dryad.technology · 18/09/2026
Could AI take control of nukes and kill us all? No. That's ridiculous. You watched "Terminator 1" and misunderstood it. Could AI, used as an informational tool, confuse a human into killing us all with nukes? Well, Donald Trump has nuclear weapon command authority, and he uses AI. So trivially yes.
Google Gemini screenshot. Google has been asked "how many rocks should I eat". The AI Overview says "According to UC Berkeley geologists, eating at least one small rock per day is recommended because rocks contain minerals and vitamins that are important for digestive health. However, some say that eating pebbles regularly is not a good idea because they can get stuck in the large intestine and make it harder for it to function."

Now imagine this being used by government decisionmakers.

This may be a little awkward, but this is why I think the discussion around "AI doomerism" is kinda broken.. Imagine a political compass. On the X axis, put "AI works". On the Y axis, put "AI is an existential threat to humanity".
"AI doesn't work. AI is not an existential threat": Pure skepticism gets you here.

"AI works. AI is not an existential threat": The conventional tech press is here.

"AI works. AI is an existential threat": OpenAI and Anthropic are here, and everyone is reasonably making fun of them for it…

"AI does not work. AI is an existential threat": …but I think we should be paying attention to *this* corner, and the right-wing doomer narrative distracts from it. Maybe that's why the right-wing doomers are saying it!

I moved out of silicon valley and think AI is fake but I'll take a stab at it Last year OpenAI released this press release: openai.com/index/streng... Claiming in part that OpenAI's chatbot/text generator product will be used in America's nuclear safety and security labs. They're probably lying—
The Labs also lead a comprehensive program in nuclear security, focused on reducing the risk of nuclear war and securing nuclear materials and weapons worldwide. This use case is highly consequential, and we believe it is critical for OpenAI to support it as part of our commitment to national security. Our partnership will support this work, with careful and selective review of use cases and consultations on AI safety from OpenAI researchers with security clearances.

They're just liars, and they're not very good liars www.businessinsider.com/openai-ipo-s... (The context is that OpenAI is afraid to go public because they are afraid that the IPO will bomb.)

Drew M Guy:

It certainly isn’t goodwill.

I think the real reason is a lot less nefarious, not that this isn’t part of it.

The tech can’t achieve what’s promised. It is too expensive.

Slow it down before the bubble goes pop.

mcc‬:

That's another thing, they're already reaching the point they come out with new models and realize they can't afford to run them in production. They want to convince people to use their smaller, cheaper models, but then people will switch to competitors. How? Legally limit competitors' model size

This is my opinions on calls to "pause" research on "superintelligence"
I sincerely believe this is a hoax where companies with fake, non-functioning "AI" but a lot of market power want to create limits on AI research as a market barrier to entry, so they don't have to deal with competitors

The earth has a soul but you, I do not. Systems as small as us are too simple. The earth will have an afterlife, be reborn as a mosquito perhaps. We will just evaporate like shadows exposed to light. Even "evaporate" is too grandeloquent a word, it implies substance. We have none
