All this advertising of future criming and all the past criming out in the open, has me asking a lot of questions. First and perhaps most important, who’s going to stop them? Second is what is our recourse? Voting, I know. I’d really prefer prison time or some old school form of punishment.

For absolutely real! Yep. Careful what you ingest, it might be poison.

I mean, at this point, I think this is true of all social media to one degree or another. Let’s face it, the vast majority of humans lack the critical literacy skills to responsibly navigate social media, generally.

It’s the systems. It’s capitalism. It’s cruel. It’s antisocial. And it’s the reality for too many of us.

What were their professions, what’s mine? You might ask. My grandma did elder care for all my life. First nursing homes and at the end, private duty care. My dad was a shipwright. I’m a college professor. 3 diff careers. Blue collar and white collar. 3 generations. Same result.

This is not new. Too many people have had to work until they literally die. My grandma was one of them. She worked until the day she had a stroke. Literally. A massive stroke that left her completely incapacited. My dad worked until the day he died. And I’ll carry on the family tradition.

It’s wild to me that any academic would put their work into AI for “polishing” or any reason. We tend to guard our ideas carefully because of intellectual theft amongst colleagues. But sure, hand your writing over to AI seems like a sane idea. WTH?🤦🏾‍♀️ not to mention all the other unethical uses.

Not many things are better than when a dog just relaxes into you. Love my granddood when he’s snuggly, wily, goofy, derpy, silly, feisty, or whatever. He’s the best. I love our snuggle time.

I cannot emphasize enough how critical this is. I’d also love to do a thread of how this is connected to the criminal regime wanting to do away with “birthright” citizenship. But I’m not doing that today. You can do the intellectual labor of drawing those threads.

THAT is the ONLY place that parasite should be speaking! Him and a few others that are top of mind rn. I’d LOVE to see him, his enablers across the world, in GITMO for the rest of their lives. It would be doing the world a service.

I’d like to live in a world where war criminals who genocide entire populations of ppl are held to account rather than handed a public lectern. But, wish in one hand, shit in the other … that isn’t the world we live in. Instead, they’re glorified and protected. What a disgusting time to live in

heal, and move on. I’m sure the convos in NHJ’s home are of this nature. At least I hope. One last truth concerning the NYT piece, Black people shouldn’t have to make choices for psychological, emotional, and physical safety or a quality education for our kids. And thats on period!
000
Xyan @drxyan.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
And I know I have failed many times over in raising my kids. They see some of the ways I’ve failed, we’ve discussed, I’ve apologized and taken full accountability. Because another truth is that as the parent, the adult, we must take full accountability of our failures in order for our kids to grow,

Xyan @drxyan.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Idk if that’s biblical. I’m not religious and have a growing disdain for Christianity at the moment. *waves hands above head* It sound biblical. Anyways, another truth (for me anyways) is children are precious and need protection, safety, enrichment, and deserve our very best.
100
Xyan @drxyan.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Or maybe many truths. As parents, we do the best we can with what we have and know at the time and we still might not serve our kids well. There is no singular right way to raise kids. There are many wrong ways but no one right way. What’s that biblical saying, judge not, let ye be judged?

Xyan @drxyan.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
for your kids and future generations that impacts your kids in ways you might not have been able to predict. I also know what it is like to have those things have devastating effect on your kids and how awful that feels. I guess in all this ruminating, I’m returning to a truth I’ve long known.

if I’d been better resourced. And in the area I raised my kids, the schools were good - one of which is regularly nationally ranked. So, we were not facing the underfunding and segregation and other overtly racist stuff NHJ and her family faced. But I do know the tension of trying to build something

Xyan @drxyan.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
I also strongly believe and am committed to the promise of public schools. I didn’t have time or space to consider how my moves for myself and my kids were part of the long tradition of the Black freedom movement. I was just trying to survive. Idk what I’d have done or choices I’d have made

dysfunction, my kids to have more opportunity than I had had, and then to start their adult lives on more solid footing that I had. I didn’t have the luxuries of school choice ($$), tutoring (regularly), college prep courses, and a lot of extracurriculars for a long time.

it was a balm to my soul. Because those 14 words encapsulated my own experience so completely. As a parent (one who was a first-gen college student, from a working class background, and was a single parent), I wanted more for my kids. I looked at my family and wanted to break some family

where their kid isn’t the ONLY one or one of the few. Those spaces are so violent, so savage, so brutal for our kids. They are damaging. Michael Harriot’s grandma says: “A Black person’s humanity can never be fully realized in the presence of whiteness.” The first time I read those words,

resentment I hold. Mostly, it’s just grief. Grief for the kid I was and what I needed and never got and didn’t know how to name, vocalize, or ask. That’s the kid. My experience where I understand the absolute need for parents of Black kids to grow and learn in Black spaces - or at least spaces

what to do with my hair. I got stories. I longed for connection and history and culture and meaning and depth and community. And I harbored a little resentment toward my mom for moving back home, out of the Black spaces she had lived in while in the Army. Honestly, there is still a smidge of

assumptions about my intellect and surprised when I spoke “proper” English types of things. So, I daydreamed about living in NYC, DC, LA where there were more Black people around, where I might have Black friends, where I might have hair products that were meant for me and people who knew

I went to schools that didn’t have the same depths of racism as schools in other parts of the country. But the racism was still there (I call it latent racism cuz it was layered with politeness) - sideways comments, curriculum, parents and families not inviting me to bday parties, teachers making

And I can’t fault her for that. At 19/20, I’d do the same pbly. Growing up in predominantly white and some exclusively white spaces was lonely and isolating. I made friends easily, so it might not have looked from the outside that I was lonely or had a longing I didn’t know how to express.

Xyan @drxyan.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
It’s an uncomfortable tension. When my mom learned she was pregnant with me, it was an immediate discharge from the Army and she went back home to whitetopia, pregnant with the first grandchild, the first (and only) Black person in the fam, the first POC in the fam. She left DC to go home.

Thinking about NHJ latest piece in the NYT and evaluating it against my own experience as THE only Black kid and as a parent wanting to invest in my kids in ways I didn’t get so they could go further. And all of that against the systemic realities in schools and society for Black ppl. 🧵

In VA Beach, we’ve went from tanks, shorts, and flip flop weather to t’s, pants, and socks weather over night. And yes, it was that drastic, like someone flipped a switch. Crazy.

I’m with you. Dems gotta win. They are far from perfect but with them it isn’t genocide everybody 24/7. And most importantly, we can fight them and pressure them to do the right thing (or something approaching it anyways). God, I’m still so angry. It didn’t need to be this way. So unnecessary.

Necropolitics is what keeps rattling around my brain. Commodifying death and destruction and selling it back to us. It’s really something to experience the decay and rot of a collapsing empire from the inside, isn’t it? And it is dismaying to see ppl’s responses to that end. I just … idk. Ugh.

I was just talking to my mom about how learning the hard way seems to be the way most people learn best. Wish it didn’t take that, that people could learn from watching others and paying attention to laws and policies and things.

Indeed, it is all connected. And because of the interconnectedness of everything awful in this country, it is harder and harder to make ethical and moral decision as a consumer and not contribute to racism, white supremacy, genocide, colonization, imperialism, climate collapse, all of it.
