Late last month, ICE reportedly put 12 Somali men on a plane and told them they were being deported to Somalia. Instead, they arrived at Guantanamo Bay, where seven or eight of them remain. Since then, the men have said they have been subjected to frigid temperatures and are shackled at all times.

CPS, like all other enforcement apparatus of the state, targets people by class and race. In 2024, a Black child was eight times more likely to be in a report and investigation than a White child. The vast majority of investigations find no wrongdoing— but all are traumatizing.
