I’m sad to see this news. He was the first consultant psychiatrist I came across as a student who made sense to me & didn’t seem madder than the patients. Gave me hope.

Ever since I learned wood anemones spread just 6 feet in 100 years, I’ve been more impressed by the starry carpet in my local woods. It’s low impact, but long lasting 🤔

☺️ I’m looking forward to this great opportunity to talk with Emma about my book. I wrote Rest-Do days about living with fatigue and how to get things done. Hope you can listen in at around 6pm.

Last Friday I finished reading Property @rowanmoore.bsky.social It has changed how I think about my home, houses around me, village church, local shop, struggles of my family & so many others, and how I read the news. Possession, when compared with property, informs alienation & belonging.

Saw my respiratory consultant a week before lockdown. So much was unknown. He was puzzled about the lack of interest in masks. Thought the virus would give me trouble. I’m tired of current media focus: like others have said, mostly written by people not on the frontline or shielding.

Had wonderful stroll with friend today, discussing seasonal nature of resting & doing. Some days it’s impossible to resist overdoing it, important when it’s in a lovely place like a wood in spring.

I think wait to see what they actually are voting on. I would welcome more support to get young people into work, and employer incentives to take them on which were systematically dismantled from 2010 onwards.

Who is this man? And why did my dad make this portrait? Who do we choose to pay attention to? Every time I come here I unfollow some more people, slowly I’ll get space to find posts that add something to my day.

Back at the hospital this week. X-ray dept had a makeover, felt hallucinogenic, too distracting to rest. Fortunately not there long.

Today is a hospital day for me. I wonder how long I’d survive without the NHS. No private provider will touch me even for the most minor procedure because I’m too risky. US style anything sounds scary. Surely Reform must be losing its appeal? eastangliabylines.co.uk/politics/rad...

I always take a crochet project to hospital appointments. It can address boredom & worries all around me, as other patients & staff stop by for a chat. My hook seems to create opportunities as fast as stitches

There’s always results: even if nothing is observed in the tests, that tells us something about the nature of what’s going on. My neuropathy varies depending on how active my vasculitis is and whether I’m dehydrated. I was very anaemic recently & that made neuropathy much worse.

I can breathe quite well now after chest infection but am in that state of fatigue where it’s very difficult to initiate anything. Another rest-do day tomorrow, following my habits to save energy.

I’ve had two, not to my hands but my legs. Strange experience: I have sensory but not motor damage from the neuropathy caused by my vasculitis. Not my worst investigation experience but wouldn’t be in a hurry to do it again.

Slowly shifting from sick days back to rest-do days. I helped a lovely friend to change my bedsheets yesterday. Novels are my best escape from miseries of being acutely unwell.

Makes me long for news stories about what’s actually happening now, not what might happen one day or daft opinion polls. Asking interesting questions rather than attention seeking ones.

These polls about generational differences have always been annoying. A great way to wind family up is to debate which generation we are supposed to be in. It’s like astrology.

Saw my GP & spoke with my respiratory consultant. It’s so helpful to hear how they understand why I can’t breathe v well. Both offered feasible suggestions & reassurance. Feeling like I’ve turned a corner towards better times today.

The poll was apparently 3000 people of all ages, a minority (N=???) of which supported the idea of a strong authoritarian leadership. Research for a TV show, too. Clickbait, clearly.

If governments and organisations attended to indoor air quality, we’d be less reliant on masks to prevent transmission of respiratory infections.
