Gentle reminder that in the late '50s, the U.S. government did not censor comics. Comics companies censored themselves. Not sure why that crossed my mind today but there it is...

Like the United CEO - do I approve of extra-judicial vigilante shootings - no. Random assassinations don’t help (this is not a condemnation of all political violence). But do I feel bad for ppl like Kirk when shit that they have openly helped to continue finally happens to them? Also no.

Got a little Robespierre energy, I think. If you build a guillotine, there’s now a non-zero chance you die by guillotine. It’s disturbing. It’s not where I want my country. But he’s part of the reason we are here now.

My favorite new conspiracy theory is that Trump’s anti-trans executive order that accidentally declared everyone is female was actually intentional so she could claim to be the first woman president.

You know, I’ve never really thought about starter pack etiquette before. Haven’t used ‘em much, but that’s an interesting question.

There’s all this talk that we need a leftist “Joe Rogan.” And I think that’s the wrong way to think about it. Rogan, or more explicitly people like Trump, Matt Walsh or Ben Shapiro are all selling a story - we need to be figuring out how we better sell our story over the tale of white supremacy.

“The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant used to be Archenemies” has the sugary sweet rom com energy I was hoping for 💙💙💙

The characters aren’t super deep yet or anything, as it’s only been one episode, but they are solid, and I am looking forward to seeing more of them. The main character, Will, is a real sweet and soft cutie. 💙

“Wistoria: Wand and Sword” is fucking gorgeous. Animated and designed as well as a feature length anime, with great subtle music. The plot is not exactly unique, being a serious version of Mashle, but the quality and ambience of the show give it the oomf it needs - especially in action scenes.

There’s no chemistry as the robot is VERY robotic and like a cross between ChatGPT and a dishwasher. There are hints that there might be more to it, but rn it’s not doing it. Will give it another couple episodes.

The anime, “My Wife Has No Emotion”, ep 1, didn’t do much for me. I have a soft spot for stories about robots that show that they might have sentience/emotions, and this story could get there, but rn the main guy is pathetic, and the conceit of the “marriage” is weakly implemented.

Decided to start lotsa anime next season and just drop the meh ones when/if I get overwhelmed. Starting w “The Strongest Magician in the Demon Lord’s Army Was a Human”… it sets up the chars but none r interesting. Bland world. No plot. We’ll see what ep 2 has, but rn it’s looking like a drop.

The Anime “Unnamed Memory” is like the abridged notes of what would be a great story. I can’t help but feel it’s likely a poor adaptation of something great.

The Grimm Variations anime, episode 5, has me wanting a full show of these characters. Also, Donkey x Cat, hot damn.

Druidan @druidan.bsky.social · 06/05/2024

I gave “Re: Monster” a chance. Despite shit animation, wack pacing, shallow chars/plot… But, bro. Last ep the MC just fucking raped some women. It didn’t treat it as the fucked thing it is. It was titillating. There’ve been rape-y jokes for a while. I’m fucking done with the show. Don’t watch it.

If multiverse theory is true, and the number of universes is infinite, then there is a universe out there where everyone doesn’t refer to each other as “sir” or “ma’m” but instead uses the gender-neutral “home-slice.”

Like, there are so many good or better anime this season… Do I really want to spend my time on this edge-lord negativity?

110

Druidan @druidan.bsky.social · 04/11/2023

I started the season liking The Kingdoms of Ruin, or at least thinking it had potential. Then I read ahead in the manga a ways and found out there isn’t a single goddamned likable person except for one of the main characters whose whole deal is being tortured because she’s the only good person.
