lots of systems running in my game. arrows show a dependency. the system or systemset on the pointer-side of the arrow requires that it's run *after* the system or systemset on the origin-side of the arrow. i'm really surprised how pleasant it is to simulate a full aircraft using the ECS paradigm.

working on the fault panel of an aircraft, and its underlying systems. it will look better than this though in the future lol. i just needed an interface to test it.

struggling to decide between these artstyles. i barely understand how to do colored outlines, especially in this context. but i think it maybe has more potential.

i found a nice palette for making icons. i really like the v-fib icon lol. also, i'll have to find a way to add detail to the RPG, considering it's too narrow to be dithered, if it still is to fit inside a 128x128 canvas. lospec.com/palette-list...

making sprites for the game i'm working on. i heavily used a reference here (using measurements from the reference), but still made it by hand, and stylized as much as i could. im quite happy with this for my minimal experience with pixel art. the dithering looks especially nice to me.

this solution (in first image) is so clean! extensive explanation in ALT text.
these functions are great, because i often have to use 32-bit floating point numbers, and i use a tick rate of 64Hz, which leads to small-enough changes getting rounded down to zero, (which would lead to, for example, a person's hunger never going down). these helpers allow me to force the tick value to always be at least the minimum supported value. and i can specify the sign, so it works in all 3 signed scenarios (always pos; always neg; one or the either)here is my helper function to apply metabolic drain in various places. you can see the always_pos() function getting used here to force the drain to occur.here we have the third situation i presented in image 1. drugs can either apply a positive health tick effect, or a negative one. and so we have the min_copysign() function. it copies the *original* sampled value, which will never be zero, because it's not yet multiplied with the time delta. the time delta is 1/64, which is why it often rounds down to zero after the multiplication is performed. this is so convenient!

ECS dwugs
In Bevy, one system, and one observer, for drug simulation. Honestly it's not much, but it's a good place to start adding more complex interactions.

I have once again massively compressed my decoder. this is so fucking epic.
the xIBIS architecture (in progress) with decoders that have been shrunk by ~2x since the last post. the main decoder is the toothbrush-shaped thing, a bit above the "opcode" word. however, the ALU-specific decoder wasn't shrunk, and can't be, since it checks individual lines. that one can be seen to the southeast of the main decoder, and is attached to the same blue bus that the main decoder and the opcode input are attached to.

does anyone have info on going through TSA without real id? i have to do it in 2 days. TSA officially recognizes this procedure and says so on their site. i've spoken to people who have done this after may this year, and got through. just wondering if there are tips on what to bring and what to say

i realized that the ROM would grow rapidly as control lines and instructions were added, so i instead opted to have separate ROMs for domain-specific lines, like ALU logic. it resulted in massive EPS and space savings
the main decoder is in the top left (the dense rectangle). the ALU is on the bottom. the ALU's dedicated ROM is the small, dense rectangle, in the middle of the screen, that looks like a mini ROM.

im starting to wonder if im insane. i have the ret operation set the returning sp to the outer bp, so not popping is okay? i just don't have a way to do pointer arithmetic inline. it has to be done with so many instructions lol. in normal-people assembly i'm pretty sure it's like "mov [ebp-4], 3"
screenshot of an untested function that is fed 7 arguments, and attempts to return the value contained in argument 6 using pointer arithmetic relative to the base pointer. i have no inline arithmetic for the base pointer, so this is probably the simplest way for now. i wonder if i'm going insane or if this actually has to be done this way. it's hard for me to conceptualize the difference between constant/static and runtime when it comes to assembly, cause it's just so different from system-level languages. i sat there staring at the screen for many minutes before i realized i had to add the m[reg] capability for load. and i can't do arithmetic on that either since it's "runtime". it's hard to explain because i haven't wrapped my head around it.

i'm working on a calling convention. i think it's really cool that customasm lets me statically determine the return address (which MUST be pushed first) by checking the size of the instructions for pushing the arguments. the alternative would be using a dedicated register, which sucks.
the calling convention in action. i will need to abstract it more later.the macros i've written so far for making the calling convention work

i actually have no idea how ptr[] and mem[] is used in normal-people assembly. but i made the syntax more explicit to make it easier to learn and remember my own ISA as i look at it

the syntax is getting more interesting. i'm using pattern-matched "types" with subruledef for the shit like ptr[x] and mem[x]. i have no idea if this is what it's supposed to look like for nasm/gas/etc. this is fun though. on the bottom are "global variables" i guess you could say, but stack better.
demo assembly code that doesn't really do anything

decided to use online blueprints, as reinventing the wheel is not my intention here. i want to push boundaries. (i did make the adder on the bottom-left). what you see here though is far from pushing anything at all. but i am learning.
the unassembled pieces of the CPU scattered all over the placei made an instruction set, which should be turing complete. but i bet it's weird as fuck to anyone experienced with amd64 or even risc-v or arm. i don't have any experience with all that, so i just made what i felt would work in a simple way.weird demo program, which i'm waiting to test once the CPU is assembled. it's supposed to subtract 1 from 8 over and over until the numbers become equal. or something.

here was the unfinished 8-bit "cpu" i designed in the past. It only supported two instructions. load into register, and movl. but it runs the program just fine (unless the timing is too fast)
you can see it has an ALU at least. but i never hooked it up.here are the instructions it was supposed to have, in my custom assembly language (using CustomASM); only load and movl work because i was too lazy to hook shit up.the test assembly code (it works)the assembly code after being assembled
