Urgh. The ick is definitely descriptive of the feeling for this!

Great article and "the ick" 100% describes my increasing feeling towards AI writing. As soon as I suspect something is AI generated text, I usually just stop reading it now. www.lexacademic.com/blog/ai-and-...

Not seeing the import option anywhere on my profile page. Also my export is in excess of 1k - will I break it?!

Hah and I forgot that bsky doesn't do gifs, so that gambolling panda now is just a most confusing image.

Ended my day with a beer in the garden. Glorious weather!

Sarah Pittaway @drsarah.bsky.social · 11/04/2025
Oh my, these are excellent! I particularly like "ice shoggles". Come to Birmingham and we can teach you such fine (but nor weather related) vocabulary as gambol, the cut, gulley, and island. Want to take a guess at any of them?? 🤔

Poetry Foundation not fucking around with today's poem of the day www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/89897/...
A screenshot of Maggie Smith's "Good Bones"
Life is short, though I keep this from my children.
Life is short, and I’ve shortened mine
in a thousand delicious, ill-advised ways,
a thousand deliciously ill-advised ways
I’ll keep from my children. The world is at least
fifty percent terrible, and that’s a conservative
estimate, though I keep this from my children.
For every bird there is a stone thrown at a bird.
For every loved child, a child broken, bagged,
sunk in a lake. Life is short and the world
is at least half terrible, and for every kind
stranger, there is one who would break you,
though I keep this from my children. I am trying
to sell them the world. Any decent realtor,
walking you through a real shithole, chirps on
about good bones: This place could be beautiful,
right? You could make this place beautiful.

I am so going to try this as a prompt at some point! Side note - a friend and I once rewrote his dating profile using ChatGPT in the style of such characters as Jeremy Clarkson, Lord Flashheart of Blackadder fame, & others. Results were mixed...

Really interesting point from Pete Barr at @sheffielduni.bsky.social library about mentally separating provision of content from collection of content. Collections can add value to an institution not only academically but also culturally, symbolically and for conservation purposes #UKSGForum2024

Yes & I think this is increasingly going to be a skill that everyone needs to have - beyond the university context, in schools / life more generally. There are a lot of potential risks that could stem from a naive engagement with AI (albeit a lot of those beyond the purview of today's discussions!)

I guess this is where academics need to adapt their pedagogy around authentic assessment, how can we ensure students engage critically with genAI and the process rather than simply submitting an easy output? #UKSGForum2024

@jsendall.bsky.social ending with a call to action - don't fear AI. If anyone has a profession to engage with the opportunities and challenges, it's the library, knowledge and info community.
