I'm my daughter's marching band's "official photographer" (not an actual position) and so my quite expensive hobby still involves heavy lenses 😅

All theories of exposure expect divergence, with some people responding better--so either all of those theories are wrong, or we are not measuring the right thing or in the right way--but that's not the difference score's fault. It's unreliable because your theory is at best poorly specified.
McMahon reaction theme with the steps (1) Our theory predicts change over time (2) Let's test it with a difference score (3) Difference scores are often unreliable (4) Unreliability of the difference score is fatal to your theory

New from my lab! So, you've heard that habituation during exposure doesn't predict overall treatment change. Emotional processing theory must be wrong and we need a new theory. But... what if the measurement of habituation was unreliable? Free for 50 days link: authors.elsevier.com/c/1noIo39qZA...

More fancy French tea tasting! American Breakfast was a baffling yet tasty caramel affair. Is Russian Breakfast the smoky blend you might expect? From the smell, no. Smells like citrus. Let's let it steep a while...

The day Katniss came home. Not long after, she got really dirty and I was drafted to give her a bath. She really hated it, but also decided right after that I was her favorite human. (Her sister also came home that day, but she prefers my daughter.)

My dialect map is like "become ungovernable." It's only really sure I'm not from the deep south. I guess (born in Philly) + (raised in central PA) + (lived in St Louis and Chapel Hill NC the rest of the time) = ...uh, California?

I always associate "not out but through" with this anecdote from Carl Jung:
Strangely enough, I had such a case only today. A lady, having set-
tled too much in the upper stories, living too much in the head, and
on a poor footing with the underworld, recounts the following dream:
There was a very dangerous-looking circle of lions. In the middle there was
a pit that was filled with something hot. She knew that she had to go down
into the pit and dive into it. So she went in and was somehow burned in
the fire. Just one shoulder of her jutted out. I pressed her down and said:
“Not out, but through it!”

Well, looking at this one, as an example--over 99% of the variance is within person. I just don't think a single time point, or even quite a few time points, will get you meaningful between-person variance to work with.

It's fine (as in small/broken leaves) and the aroma is strong. Inside of the bag has been stained yellow, which I take as a good sign (I like strong Earl Grey otherwise what's the point). It's steeping...

Today I am trying...American breakfast tea! But it is expensive French loose leaf tea claiming to be in the American style. Will it outdo Lipton? I mean yes, of course, because Lipton is barely tea (and optimized for iced tea), but still, interesting to see what this is up to.

A lost episode where Twelve takes Clara to Japan...
The timeline makes it look like Capaldi's Doctor has said: Tomonoura, a harbor town in Hiroshima Prefecture, has captivated filmmakers. Miyazaki Hayao stayed there for two months and used the port as the model for Ponyo. Hollywood also arrived when The Wolverine filmed scenes among its cobblestone streets.

From: Let America be America Again, by Langston Hughes
Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death,
The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies,
We, the people, must redeem
The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers.
The mountains and the endless plain—
All, all the stretch of these great green states—
And make America again!

The headline and I think the article itself is misleading in that the contributing factor was what kind of job women had, not what each woman did on the job as an individual. To my mind the implied intervention would be "get a desk job" not "lean forward less."
Text reading: Exposure
Information on occupation was retrieved from the Occupational and Industry Register with the Danish 1988 version of the International Standard Classification of Occupations (DISCO-88) from 1 January 2004, and the 2008 version from 1 January 2010 (DISCO-08).17 We used a crosswalk to convert DISCO-88 codes to DISCO-08 codes.18 Women were assigned their occupational job code from the year their pregnancy started. Time spent standing, walking and forward bending ≥30° during working hours was assessed using the PRECISE JEM15 developed in 2025 from a Danish pregnancy cohort.19 Briefly, the PRECISE JEM is a quantitative JEM based on a combination of accelerometer measurements from 403 female workers (109 DISCO-08 codes) and ratings from three experts (all 1171 DISCO-08 codes), using linear mixed-effect models and best linear unbiased predictions. The JEM provides estimates of occupational hours spent standing, walking and forward bending ≥30° while in an upright position for all DISCO-08 codes. The JEM for standing was trimester-specific; therefore, exposure was assigned according to trimester with a 1-week lag. In contrast, the JEMs for walking and bending were merely pregnancy-specific, hence the same exposure estimate was applied throughout pregnancy. The exposure variables were continuous and represent hours per 8-hour workday.15

I'm at the Freud Museum in London, which is in Freud's last dwelling, a nice house on a street of nice houses. At a guess, largely paid for by fees from American psychiatrists who wanted to become psychoanalysts and so went to Vienna to be analysed by Freud. (Will update if I find otherwise within)

Sculptures at Ekeberg Park in Oslo. Today I learned that the city bought this land to develop a place for factory workers to go to get away from polluted air and the crowds. So then of course a few years later Edvard Munch gets anxious there and has the idea for The Scream. Artists. So ungrateful.
