Elder statesman of underachievement; brand ambassador for laziness; case study in evolutionary dead ends. Someone once told me I "sound like a fucking Wurzel". This pleased me.

Ooh, a jointer plane - is it a 22 inch or 24 inch? Either way, it's 💕💕💕💕. DM me if you want private pics of my sweetheart era Stanley #7, getting down and dirty with wood.

You can mock but many of us have 'legitimate concerns' about the creeping hedgehogification of our country.

Some know, some don't. My point is: No-one knows all the spellings. I say this as a man who really cannot spell.

If anyone tells you snootily that they can spell, ask them to do that d- word that is "dried" coconut. And the M word for the year 2000. Most can't do both. Either way, spelling isn't intelligence or skill. It's just rote learning brain stuffing, like memorising barcodes on jamjars.

Y&Y wasn't really that. It got posh points for being R4 but really it was just "Mr Smith's kettle doesn't work and they won't give him his money back", of which channel 5 can entertain you all day. If it wasn't being consumed, I would rather see the licence fee spent on something that will be.

I'm in two minds. As a public service broadcaster, I absolutely believe the BBC should be required to support 'the arts', investigative journalism, etc. not just popular/good ROI stuff. But

Perfume brand loved by nans. They spot number of nans is going down so try to pivot to younger hipper types with raunchy rebrand. Nans: "Oh no, I don't want to be associated with that." Young people: "I don't want to smell like my nan." In Jag's case, replace "nans" with "gammon".

Unlike patriot Nigel Farage I don't relish the idea of a British brand failing, with thousands of British employees losing their jobs. I wish them well but, sadly, this does all feel like Yardley all over again. For those that don't remember Yardley: www.theguardian.com/business/202...

I'm going to get myself blocked by every Bluesky user by telling you that I don't see second home ownership as always a bad thing. Like anything else, it is nuanced. Being Sarah Pochin, a Reform MP, or a hypocrite isn't nuanced though. It's just wrong.

Tom Cruise’s Digger has flopped spectacularly – but I think it is a misunderstood masterpiece
This article contains spoilers for Digger: Alejandro G Iñárritu’s film may be about to become one of the biggest bombs Hollywood has ever seen – but it is destined to be re-evaluated with time

Try puffer fish. "This fish killed Brian", "Bummer, but I reckon the back left bit is safe to eat". "Shit, Angela's dead from eating the back left!" "Let's try the bit in the middle on the fish's right, just behind the gills". "No, Sophia and Abdul are dead now too". "Ok, let's try ...".

I feel your hurt. A few goes back I triumphantly got the pangram on Spelling Bee. It was clearly "downpipe". But the fuckpumps upstairs, the ones that own the computer, said no. Apparently "downpipe" is not a word. Put me right off it did.

Things I have learnt over the years: It is perfectly acceptable for a short person to ask a tall person to get stuff off the top shelf; but it is not acceptable for a tall person to ask a short person to get stuff from the bottom shelf. Signed, Me (1.93m, doesn't bend well).

I can't spell, never have been able to. There are many reasons, unrelated to intellect, why people can't spell. However, in my case, it really is just because I am lazy and thick. I console myself that I rarely have anything meaningful to contribute, so no harm done.

I'm just being annoyed that typing in haste means I misspelt both Schengen and controversial. Really, must be better.

Phill Cook @drphillc.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
And, possibly contraversially, I'd like the time for the debate to include, in a grown up way, joining Shengen and the Euro (yes and yes for me).

For avoidance of doubt, I'm 100% rejoin. I just want to avoid perma-debate or rejoining in a way that just empowers the likes of Farage and fucks up the EU by us sending people like him back in as MEPs. The ppl of the EU countries deserve better than the UK of 2015/16 spoiling things again.

Phill Cook @drphillc.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Disagree. It has to be a manifesto pledge or referendum - the 2016 Brexit mandate needs explict reversal, not Major & Maastricht v2. We also need time to build the facts on what rejoin means, give a concrete proposition. Absent this, support for rejoin becomes fragile in a whataboutery vacuum.

Dogs don't have visual self awareness - they do not see themselves in a mirror. At best, they see another dog initially before losing interest as no dog smell. There is good evidence that they have olefactory self awareness (know their own scent) and physical awareness (know where their body is).

In primary school our RE included being told that black, brown, white ppl are all made by god. Only, god only made one bath. After being made, the white person got in and got clean. The brown person used the white's dirty water and the black person is still dirty apart from palms and soles.

I don't want to come across as "kids of today, eh" but I'm watching University Challenge and it turns out 6 of the nation's finest student minds can't identify an oak (their guess - sycamore), a poplar, an ash, or an elm from pictures of their leaves I'm sure they know shitloads I don't.

There's a limit to how close two objects can get before electrostatic repulsion, well, repels them. However, when my dog wants to tell me she needs a cuddle or food she's found a way to overcome these fundamental forces and get even closer.

I'm coming round to Sevilla FC for my not-ski trip. The match that weekend is one they're likely to lose (yay!) and, despite having visited Seville many times, I've not convinced the heathens I live with to see Cordoba. Go it alone may be my destiny. And, anyway, RC S's time in LL is short lived.

As a Betis supporter, Sevilla would make a bit of sick come up - altho rules is rules and it will have to be tackled eventually, unless I get really lucky and they are demoted. All in all, I think I fancy me a trip to Santander.

Just agreed with my son the clubs I am allowed to see when he goes skiing with his mum (I don't ski - tried it, hated it, so I sit this one out every year). I was hoping for Celta but no. Options are RC Santander, D Alaves, Osasuna, or Sevilla.

The very small canvas of people who will seem him as a martyr for getting arrested will equally claim "this is evidence they're ignoring our cause" if he is not. As fellow hate-merchant Arron Banks famously said after the Grenfell fire "the law is the law". Arrest the fucker.

There's a stone in my local cemetery (Arnos Vale) that reads "b 1940, d 2018 (aged 78) beloved brother and son". "And son" must imply - surely? - they had at least one parent alive when they died. Aged 78. I am sure it's more common than I think, but I find that remarkable.

It's all of those things and also an example of "we've fixed it in the west, so it must be fixed" thinking. Replace 'sbestos' with 'I' and everything both of us have written still holds.

Even though it is understood as a serious health risk, we still mine about 1M tonnes of asbestos every year globally, including in countries where it is banned from local use (they're happy to dig it up and export it). It is, sadly, a case study of a genie staying very much out of the bottle.

I am not a man to get too involved in a Madrid derby - my affections lie further south. However, today's match reinforces my view that RM is the Tottenham of La Liga - all the players, all the money, fancy stadium. But, still can't win a match against decent opposition.

Gotta love Betis (even when they lose). Preseason against Arsenal: 3-1 win. La Liga against Real Madrid: 1-0 win. Yet La Liga against Levante: 2-5 loss.
