If you’re in #Torino/ #Turin then pay a visit to Il Vicolo. I had the most amazing #risotto there tonight 👌 They have about 15 on the menu, I went for the Morbido—black whole grain rice with gorgonzola, bacon and confit tomatoes, contrasted with crispy courgette on top. 😋
A cast iron pan with dark reddish brown risotto topped with light yellow green courgettes, and a fork on a napkin to then side. The placemat has IL VICOLO on it.

Looking up at a blue-tinted plate glass wall, made from multiple panes, converging with a vertical perspective. The office building opposite is reflected in the lower part, and the diamond pattern of the skylights inside the building is also visible, both overlapping in the middle to form a complex geometry.

Sitting in the square in Amersfoort enjoying a nice beer, with 2 clocks chiming every 1/4 hour—I can see why the hotel came with a pair of ear plugs on the towels😁

#canal #reflections in #Schiedam this morning for #silentSunday
2 Dutch boats reflected in a canal with trees and houses behind. A few autumn leaves float on the water, with 2 geese hiding in the shadows. This shy is a misty grey and in the distance at the end of the canal is a windmill to complete the stereotype

Passport control into the Netherlands was even quicker! About a minute including registration for EEZ, with zero queue as I was (inadvertently) one of the first off the ship. Was on the tram less than 15 minutes after disembarking. Just missed a connection in […] [Original post on mastodon.scot]
Bow of the Stena Hollandica seen from the tram. In the foreground is another tram track with overhead cables above and reflections of the light.
The red footbridge can just be seen at the right of the image, above the name Stena Line in large blue letters on the side of the ferry.
The sky is grey as it was a bit foggy.

Goodbye Scotland, see you in 2 weeks. For now I’m on the first train of many , to explore another slice of Europe. Bonus beer, it is Friday after all.
View out of a train window of the coastline of South-east Scotland. There is rough grass above a rocky coastline and the great sea beyond. The sky is grey with various layers of clouds. A small glass of beer next to the can. It is Hop on Board Golden Ale for LNER, and the can says Celebrating 10 years on board.

A wooden panelled door in the process of being repainted, it is a textured mix of black sanded back to grey undercoat with white splodges on top. A dull brass number 8 towards the top adds a little colour.

Solved something that's been bugging me for a while this morning: confirmed that the Beatrice Demonstration turbines have not yet been decommissioned, despite the Moray West windfarm being built around them. Was able to find them on @CopernicusEU #Sentinel2 […] [Original post on mastodon.scot]
A slightly blurry satellite image of open sea with white smudges that are actually offshore wind turbines. A yellow marker pin in the middle sits between the locations of Beatrice Demonstration turbines A and B, while to the north of them at the top of the image is the rectangular blob of the decommissioned Beatrice AD oil platform. The other wind turbines just visible are part of the Moray West wind farm.
It is not very interesting visually, but the information in the image is useful.

#silentSunday #reflections #WaterOfLeith #Edinburgh
Green trees reflected in the still section of the Water of Leith upstream of Damside weir. The leaves cover most of the sky with a dappled green mosaic. Trunks wrapped in dark green ivy on both banks create vertical lines, contrasting against this is the dark bank opposite. Near the centre of the photo, smaller branches spread out, creating a subtle bursting focal point

Monochrome photo of an imposing dressed stone building, with three large window openings. Each has multiple panes of glass, but they have been painted black, with some are reflecting the sunlight on their textured surface. Below is the top section of a three panel sliding door, the loading bay for the National Museum of Scotland. Some of the building stonework is dark with grime, creating interesting textures.

A monochrome photo from a low perspective of a large puddle at the side of a wide footpath. A stone wall bounds the side, curving across the photo, above are trees, reflected in the water below.
The photo is taken on the Water of Leith walkway, below the Dean Bridge, although that is not really visible in the picture, except perhaps partly in the reflection

A fuchsia pink water lily flower in a pond surrounded by greenish brown leaves, mostly lily pads, but with the broad spike of an iris leaf coming down from the top left, and bulbous branches of submerged oxygenators opposite, in the background are a few pale blue forget-me-nots. This wall has obviously been repaired multiple times #textureTuesday #edinburgh
A stone wall, with multiple different colours of stone where it must have been rebuilt. In the foreground, the bottom half is distinctly different to the top, which may also be repaired. Further down the street, the darker stones curve down to ground level, replaced by pristine new stone, where a collapsed section has recently been rebuilt.

Upwards / New growth #thickTrunkTuesday #Mosstodon
Two old grey tree trunks, covered in mosses and lichen, mostly in sunlight with dappled shadows on the green grassy hill behind.
The trunk on the left is vertical, but bare, while another slopes diagonally across to the right, with new growth sprouting vertically from it, despite the lean.
I think the trees are silver birch, and both had full canopies above.

Old buildings reflected in a modern glass building, with a pale blue sky.
The windows are not quite aligned, so the reflection is distorted, but old stone tenements and a green copper church spire can just about be made out.

A tranquil scene of a river, surrounded with green vegetation. In the middle is a bronze statue, of and by Anthony Gormley, standing in the still water above a small weir, looking skywards. A shallow layer of whitewater cascades down the sloping weir and over some boulders below into another calm pool. A few branches with green leaves hang down in the foreground, but no sky is visible. The damp weather meant there were fewer tourists than usual.

A mycelium inspired artwork by Stevi Benson for #textureTuesday
Artwork made from cut white paper set against a dark blue painted wall.
It consists of 9 circles of varying sizes, each with a solid dot in the middle surrounded by an intricate web of radiating branches, inspired by underground mycelium networks.
Some of the networks are touching or slightly overlapping, while others are separated by a small gap. Details of the artwork:

Interwoven
Stevi Benson
2025-26
Hand-cut paper.

Fascinated by the symbiotic relationships that exist within nature, Stevi Benson explores the complex patterns, structures and connections found in forest communities.
Interwoven takes us below the forest
floor to reveal mycelium - a tangled
mass of fine, fungal threads called
hyphae. A single teaspoon of healthy
soil is a microscopic universe, containing
metres or even kilometres of mycelium.
These delicate threads provide soil with
much of its structure and enable plant-
fungal partnerships.

Wandering through the central #Edinburgh oasis of #HolyroodPark for #silentSunday
In the foreground is a rocky crag with a couple of small trees and a few yellow flowers growing through it. Behind are the greenish slopes of Arthur’s Seat and Salisbury Crags, on a mostly cloudy day.
Not in the photo is the incessant chirping of many birds and the occasional noise from the surrounding city. Looking the other way to a green valley, the scrubby slopes of Arthur’s Seat on the right, paths and people in the foreground, and the city, Firth of Forth and the Fife coast beyond. A range of tall yellow towers for an offshore wind farm are being stored in the docks.
