The #ggsegverse website how has a proper playground! Served through @posit.co Cloud Connect, a n #rstats session to explore atlases, how to alter their positions, colours etc. An excellent resource to also learn how to use it, as it shows the code. #shiny ggsegverse.github.io/news/2026-10...
The demo app in 2D view. A sidebar on the left holds the atlas picker, a Colour regions by radio set with Example values selected, a Viridis colour scale, a seed slider, and layout and theme pickers. The main panel shows the Desikan-Killiany atlas drawn in eight views, two rows of four, each region filled from a viridis scale. Below the figure a code panel titled The code behind this figure shows the R script that made it, beginning with library(ggseg) and library(ggplot2).The demo app in 3D view. The sidebar offers Surface, Hemispheres, Add glass brain, Camera and Background controls. The main panel shows an inflated left hemisphere seen from the lateral side, each cortical region a different colour, with a region legend to the right. The code panel below reads library(ggseg3d), then a ggseg3d call with atlas and surface arguments piped into pan_camera and set_background.

This is the first #TidyTuesday I've done in a while. It can feel impossible to carve out the time to make something that is just okay, when other people are making #dataviz that is really beautiful. What's stopping you from participating? And how do you get past it? #rladies

`atlas = dk` stopped working in ggseg 2.0.0. It's `dk()` now, and I owe you the reason: R cannot re-export a dataset from another package's namespace. A function is the honest way to put a name there. 🧠 #RStats l.drmowinckels.io/DVergO

Inside the doorway sits a glowing pedestal with a stylized brain outline and a small tag reading "dk()". On the right, a second door is completely walled off with grey bricks and a nameplate reading "dk". Below the doors, code text reads "ggplot() + geom_brain(atlas = dk())

And ofc, being in Norway, the doctors were not afraid of getting sued, neither was the hospital (though it does happen, it's not something in the forefront of anyone's mind). Honesty is valued here, and our country's largest NICU had only seen one other baby with this. Being honest about limitations

It's been 8 years, and they still keep in touch with the primary team they had. They knew from the start that the team were on almost daily calls with specialists in Sweden (we are in Norway) who had at least some experience, so they were open from the start that expertise was hard to find

When my bff lost her baby after 5months of struggle with a very uncommon genetic illness, it was because they had been too aggressive in dialysis. What did the parents want from the hospital staff? To know that they learned something so they knew better for the next baby with the same illness.

Since I mainly read audiobooks, I know the books I read are already in a digital catalogue, so I dont want to manually add them to my profile. Since the other options I found for syncing were stale or didnt work for me, I vibe coded a python CLI to do it.

that means both you locally, and on CI, can decide if you want to run the heavier long-running tests. This will also skip them on CRAN.
000
ᴅʀ. ᴍᴏᴡɪɴᴄᴋᴇʟ'ꜱ @drmowinckels.io · 19/06/2026
you could add _conditinal_ testing. so that those computations dont run _every_ time you test, but just on CI or something like that? That would make local development faster. If using testthat, you could create a custom `skip_if_` function that checks for an envirnment variable.
100
ᴅʀ. ᴍᴏᴡɪɴᴄᴋᴇʟ'ꜱ @drmowinckels.io · 19/06/2026
Well, it all comes down to what you are testing. Parallelizing if you are using testthat v3 could help.. but it all comes down to what the tests actually do. If you are doing heavy computations or bootstrapping or something that inherently takes time, hard.

I had a package _deeply_ using plotly, basically a wrapper to a 3d mesh plot. I managed to switch it to a js htmlwidget this year in stead. yeah sure, I lost some cool extra plotly features, but totally worth it imo, given how hard plotly maintenance became.

Quarto's `hugo-md` format wraps every figure in raw HTML, so Hugo's image render hook never fires on them. Fifteen lines of Lua + one line in `_quarto.yml` and every figure comes out as clean `![alt](src)` markdown instead. l.drmowinckels.io/WgOEMR
