I would argue that the World has been constantly at war since the dawn of humanity. WWI and II are remembered as such because the sheer magnitude of the conflicts. The Cold War was (is?) a world war between blocs of nations. Even the "non-aligned" are fighting among them (e.g. India and Pakistan).

Google seems to have different policies for the US and for the rest of the world. Here in Belgium, it's still labeled Lake Ontario. For the Gulf of Mexico, they kept it too but added Gulf of America in parentheses. Go figure. 🤷‍♂️
