All good suggestions. But, any ear plug is better than nothing at loud concerts. I’ve taken to wearing insert earphones (Apple AirPods Pro) which work well and (apparently) give 20-30dB of attenuation. If you’re an Apple Watch wearer you can get estimated noise levels with/without protection

The speaker predicts they will say "head", but actually produces "had". The resulting sensory prediction error is minimised by active inference - changing speech movements to correct for this error.

The listener predicts they will hear "head" but hears "had" and performs perceptual inference to minimise their sensory prediction error - updating their predictions during perception.

This paper had a pretty shocking headline result (40% of voxels!), so I dug into it, and I think it is wrong. Essentially: they compare two noisy measures and find that about 40% of voxels have different sign between the two. I think this is just noise!
