Put simply, I would argue that the most urgent task is to start the process of rejoining the EU. We desperately need that boost to the economy to be able to afford to do all the other stuff. Let’s Get on with it.

I really hoped this stupidity would stop when Labour changed leaders. And, you’re absolutely right the contrast with the balaclava black sorts is there for all to see.

And hopefully remanded. Chances of reoffending if released on bail must be high. Compare this to non violent arrests over climate activists or those detained over Gaza protests.

Done. Even though I’m in one of the strongest remain constituencies and my MP is very pro EU, every move towards rejoining has to be taken. Thanks for all your work

Recall one where John Gidman starred for us in midfield and I think we won 2-1; it was after a horrendous stream of results against them, including the cushion throwing moment.

Another consequence of the crisis engulfing HE; one that was foreseen by those working inside Universities but seemingly beyond the grasp of property developers. Suspect there will be more of this.

Commercialised gambling is à loathsome trade that preys on vulnerable people. Needs to be closely regulated at best and sports/football clubs that benefit from it should reconsider sponsorship and the alignment of sponsors with values they claim to promote.

What I love about Western democracy is you can bung a political party £ 36 million earned from criminal activity & most media will continue to point at asylum seekers & migrant care workers with families as the barbarians at the gate we need to defend ourselves from 🙄.

This is completely on Andy Burnham Last week Labour could have stopped this. Now we have a single person giving more money than the entire general election spending limit for a political party www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/202...

He failed dismally - tried to sell Armstrong on the quiet, failed to a sign right back in good time, screwed up purchase of forwards multiple times, sold players before a replacement was in situ and got less than going rate for star man. A truly pathetic showing but a lot to achieve in 72 hours.

Sports pages certainly are. Most of the commentary I've read is exploring how Everton found a way to disappoint the fanbase, humiliate the manager, weaken the team and make themselves a laughing stock inside around 72 hours.

Improved Cooperation with neighbouring countries is an obvious first step towards addressing this. An impoverished island cannot achieve much in splendid Brexit isolation. Could look at restoring the aid budget as a means to engage with root causes. Could even treat it as a humanitarian question.

I eventually found a not too prohibitively expensive dentist and she just said to me that people just leave it too late so preventable problems become emergencies. London is a dead loss and I ended up in Hampshire on recommendation of a relative. Still expensive but two thirds of price quoted.

Dr Mark Dunford @drmarkd.bsky.social · 15/08/2026
Really sympathetic. Dentistry in UK is a disgrace. Only affordable regularly by wealthy or those lucky enough to have NHS while rest forego check ups to avoid cost. We all need annual check ups at an affordable price from à national network of qualified dentists. Another privatisation disaster.

And a complex academic culture which fails to recognise that a market driven system of education will inevitably spiral out of control with dangerous consequences for all.

worth saying this isn't just a British press problem, for some reason Arday was also written about extensively in mainstream national publications in the US and in France, among others, we really do have an entirely fucked up global media ecosystem

Jason Arday's utterly sad death holds a stark mirror up to the dehumanising political-media-societal culture we are in – one we must all be honest about being complicit in – which forgets there is a human being at the centre of a story, a case study, an issue, a scandal. It is dehumanising.

The Clacton byelection cost taxpayers a quarter of a million pounds. That is the cost of employing six NHS nurses for a year. Put that on the side of a bus.

Nephew staying with us. He is part Italian and raised in Senegal. Offered the outsider's view that this seems to be a strangely antiquated way to change a Government in a democracy. It is true yet there is a glimmer of hope that this could be rectified if mooted action on electoral reform occurs.

Early in his career, Alfred Hitchcock began making small appearances in his own films. The cameos sometimes lasted just a few brief seconds, and sometimes a little while longer.

The slow death of the UK university sector is a travesty & will make the UK financially & culturally poorer in decades to come. Whole areas of expertise will be lost & cannot easily be regained. Such a shame.

Reading reports around Badenoch's latest speech. You've got to wonder how someone can misread the zeitgeist so badly, no one approves of "language policing" (assuming it means unwarranted censorship) but a basic civility is something we should expect from elected politicians in public discourse.

Hugely informative thread. Hard, if not impossible, to “like” but so important to appreciate the detail and the warning, if that is right word, that we need to pay attention to climate emergency by changing behaviour, altering lifestyle and doing all we can to ensure others do the same.

We need to find someone who can stand in Clacton against Farage at the next election - à neutral figure who can take on the role Martin Bell had in Tatton; someone who can maximise the anti Farage vote and drive the poisonous frog out of the elected house.
