I learned during my research in schools that period products aren't always accessible, even if schools are signed up for the scheme. More info here... theconversation.com/english-scho...

English schools provide free period products – but they’re still not easy for pupils to get hold of
Pupils are still struggling to access menstrual products for use during lessons and exams.

If you don’t have a library card go get one. Even if you don’t plan on using it right away, go get one. Keep our libraries alive.

Things to celebrate from 2024 - family, friends, all the wonderful people I've worked with on numerous knowledge exchange projects, and my book finally coming out! And a new book to write in 2025!

This paper by @nisreenalwan.bsky.social and colleagues outlines the work required to live with long-term conditions. There are strong parallels with our ‘pathway to inequality’ which shows the impact of trying to manage when chronic illness is disbelieved. Read more here: tinyurl.com/3rd3hjxy
Pathway to inequality: a circular pathway. In the centre it says stigma, lack of trust and agency and no patient say in decision making. Around the outer pathway it says:
1. Disbelief and discrimination from medical professionals
1a. If you can afford it, move to private care
2. Unable to get adjustments in work or education
3. Unable to access benefits
4. Unable to access health and social care
5. Disbelief and isolation from family and friends
6. Negative impact on self-esteem and mental health
7. Having to fight for access to services
8. Worsening of symptoms
9. Avoidance of medical care
10. Start again with fewer resources and worse health

Leading up to my book coming out, I'm sharing quotes from focus groups. Teenage girl said about K Gandhi freebleeding: 'in Asian households, from personal experience, there can be so much stigma attached to being on your period. To be an Asian woman doing that is really inspiring for a lot of us'
